Unable to run FSX

Featured Replies

I hope this is the right forum for this, apologies if it's not.

I recently went on a commerical 737 simulator experience and as I enjoyed it was advised to get FSX and the PMDG 737 ngx 800.

I bought a brand new copy of FSX Gold off amazon, it arrived sealed and is a genuine MS product.

After installing it I have been unable to run FSX as I always get an error - The MSXML4 SP2 component is not installed, please re-install FSX to repair this error.

Having searched the net and this site I am aware that this is an old error and that there are various suggested solutions. I have tried to install various versions of MSXML direct and various security updates for it from Microsoft's website all to no avail. I have also tried installing the version from Disc 2 of the program however it still does not work and when running regsvr32 I get a message to say that the module MSXML4. may not be compatible with this version of Windows.(I am using windows 7 home premium 64bit).

I have tried amending the cab file as discussed on other sites but this did not work

Having spent more than 3 days trying everything I could find on the internet to solve this I am reaching the point where I may have to give up on FSX despite the fact that I really would like to have a go with it.

If anyone can suggest something that I have not tried, or perhaps point me in the direction a a version of MSXML4 that they have got working with Windows 7 home premium I would be very grateful.

Hi David, welcome to AVSIM.

I read you've already tried quiet a bit so I'm not really sure what to say. I'm running Win7 Home Premium 64bit and didn't have this issue when installing.

Perhaps you can try uninstalling FSX and delete all FSX folders. Uninstall MSXML4 and then

1st. reinstall MSXML4 SP2

2nd reinstall FSX. See if it runs before

3rd Install FSX Acceleration.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

EDIT: I've googled a bit and a couple of forums seem to be pointing to a security update for MSXML4. I did read you've tried a bunch of them. Have you tried this one:

http://www.microsoft...ang=en&id=14623 (KB954430)

In fact I understand its best you uninstall MSXML4 and then run the above security patch. If that doesn't work, install MSXML4 from my first link, then the security update.

HTH.

please re-install FSX to repair

I havnt seem where you tried reinstalling or repairing. Or you have tried reinstalling and still get this error? Which operating system?

The file should have installed with the installation of FSX. Like others, this is the first time I have seen this error. Did you turn off UAC and any anti-virus program prior to installing FSX? You can disable UAC by clicking on the start button and in the search bar type user access controls then look up in the menu and click on How to Change User Access Controls.

If you uninstall FSX, you will also have to delete the main fsx folder and remove entries in the system registry. The best freeware product to do this is Uninstaller2 - http://www.iobit.com/advanceduninstaller.html. It will delete FSX then at the end ask you if you want to locate anything left over and you then say yes and it finds all the files left on your HDD plus all the entries in your registry. After restart, you can then reinstall FSX.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks for the replies.

I have tried what has been suggested above. But still get the MsMXL missing error.

Repairing and reinstalling the program has not fixed it even after cleaning out the registry etc.

If anyone has any other ideas I'd be grateful.

Thanks
