Deleting water FS9

Featured Replies

I'd like to larn how to delete small water features, specificaly ponds and lakes. Several airports I mess around with scenery wise have some badly placed water and i would like to get rid of it.

Im talking FS9 and Sbuilder here. Im familiar with Sbuilder and landclass etc, so a short bit on how would be great. Thanks.

FS 9 files are easy to modify with SBuilder - simply append the LWM files (probably something like HP9xxxx0) into SBuilder, make any changes, and compile. Remove the original and replace with the modified file.

Best regards.

Luis,

Can i do that say along with a landclass project for the same area? Or do i have to make it a seperate bgl/seperate project? As to the LWM file Im assuming you are talking about the entire grid square as i look at it in Sbuilder. I was thinking I could just make an LWM poly with a landmask but that does not do it.

Concerning the LWM file (the HPetc.bgl), I suppose it depends if you mean to modify a default file or an add-on package. If default, then it will be an entire LOD5 (Cell) grid.

But, this doesn't really matter. The point is that water in FS 9 can be excluded easily, but not the elevation associated with it. So, you may see depressions in the terrain after the water is gone. The solution is therefore to not create an exclusion for it, but to open the original file and completely delete the LWM feature, thereby also removing its elevation, which is something an exclusion won't do.

It is not difficult to do, but will create confusion if you propose to distribute it for others, since they will have to replace the original file with your modified file, instead of simply placing your files in any active scenery folder. But, if it is only for yourself, then this is the easiest solution.

You can do any other scenery mods that you wish in SBuilder; the land class will be compiled separately anyway.

Best regards.

Thanks Luis, much appreciated. After careful investigation it is Free Flow New England which is adding this small water feature which i do not want. I dont know how to find it though to modify. Im working on KDDH, bennington, NH and just want to modify it for my self. Any help you can give is much appreciated. How would I find that specific pond and how do i identify which BGL I need to modify? Its basically right off one end of the runway.

It sounds like you are familiar with SBuilder.

I think the files you want to modify are in ...\FREEFlow New England\scenery.

Back up the originals first.

The water body is in LL_928160OBL-PRNY-SW_lwm.bgl.

The coastlines are in VV_928160OBL-PRNY-SW_vtp.bgl.

You should be able to remove the offenders from those files.

Joe

So to be clear..just browse to those files with Sbuilder....open them..find the offending pond...select it and delete. Then save and recompile the bgl . I guess I have to do both also, delete the coastline and the water feature. I have made landclass files and done some poly work with Sbuilder succesfully.

Hmmmmm I have used Sbuilder for a while....years in fact, but when i open that LWm bgl and find the pond, delete it..then attempt to save it says i cannot do that as my copy of Sbuilder is not registered! Not seen this before and was not aware this needed to be registered in order to use it. I guess I just have never used any of the features requiring this!

I don't think you can open the .bgl files in SBuilder.

I would start a new project, then File>Append... to bring the .bgl files into the new project.

One is a LWM.bgl, one a VTP.bgl, see the file names.

Then delete what you want and compile.

Make sure FS is not running when you compile and that you move the original files out of the active scenery folder.

As for registering- http://www.fsdevelop...ead.php?t=15077
