September 29, 201213 yr I'm wondering how does the landing technique work with the airbrakes handle. (Spoilers) I've noticed that if short field landing is made the airbrakes are deployed. Now, I would like to know what is the proper technique ? Deploying airbrakes half way ? Does the spoilers deploy automatically on touch down no matter what is the position of the handle ? (Or it should be like boeing style were the handle must be in arm position ?) I'll appreciate any information as I'm learning the new Qualitywings Avro. Thank you.

I guess no one really knows
September 30, 201213 yr I believe the brake and spoilers deploy automatically. There's no lever position equivelant to arm. Randy Swofford
September 30, 201213 yr Yes fully automatically, however as fare as I remember the engine throttle must be on idle and front wheel must by on the ground and breaks is applied manually.....no auto-brakes. Alaa A. RiadJust love to fly............... W11 64-bit, MSFS2020, Intel Core i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20 Ghz 6 Cores, 2 TR HD, 16.0 GB DDR4 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 MB GDDR5
September 30, 201213 yr According to the QW user manual, you select air brake to open when assured of a landing and then when weight is on the main gear, they then move to lift dump as the spoilers are also deployed. Craig Further to my previous post. The wheels on the main gear must be turning, spoilers on or auto, at least 3 of the throttles must be at idle and anti skid must be on. Hope that helps Craig
September 30, 201213 yr Here in Sofia, at my local airport Vrazhdebna, the is some Hemus Air Bae 146's who make their descent with the speedbrakes deployed, they make their descents a bit steep. Everytime I see an Bae 146 about to land, speedbrake are deployed. Also they appear to be nose down just a few metres before they correct their position for landing... Some airplanes like IL-62 does even use reversers before touchdown.
September 30, 201213 yr The (realworld) landing technique is as follows: 1. The approach is flown at Vref + 5 kts. 2. The airbrake is opened fully at around 150-200' (normally this coincides with DA/DH). In the aircraft the airbrake lever is pulled rearward to a 'stop'. All 'normal' landing performance is predicated on landing with the airbrake deployed. 3. Deployment of the airbrake causes a slight nose up pitch which must be countered (anticipated) to avoid going above the glideslope. 4. Deployment of the airbrake will bleed speed back 5kts to cross the threshold at Vref. 5. At 30' retard the thrust levers and adopt a 'landing attitude'. 6. For the idyllic still air/wind down the runway scenario, do nothing! Just let the aircraft settle onto the runway. 7. Touchdown shold be at Vref - 7kts. If autospoilers have been armed, they will deploy when a combination of squat swtich operations are met and , theoretically, no action on the flightdeck is required. However, to assure that any last minute fault in the auto system is catered for, the airbrake lever is pulled past the rearward position (airbrake out) to the manual spoiler detent.
