Water Setup

My question is, when I load up at KHQM prior to making the above changes it would show some AI traffic (I have the Orbx NA AI traffic loaded) it would show different planes parked with me at the GA parking, it would show all their textures. Now when I load up after making the above changes it shows all the planes except 2 properly. Both now have greyed out textures. One looks like a Cessna 177 the other looks like a Cessna 310.

No - neither the async, nor the Highmemfix will make any difference, Gig, as to whether the Orbx AI shows up or not. The Orbx AI is not DX10 compatible, unless one uses the AddonConverterX.

Ah ok, I was thinking on it and was wondering if somehow UT2 or the AI pulls models from what I have loaded. Then if some of my planes i.e Aussim Piper Warrior, some Carenado models that are FS9/FSX not Full FSX.

Should I remove those planes to keep the AI from attempting to use them? Does it even do what I'm suggesting?

In reading their post I can't see where they say it's DX10 compatible or not so I guess we should assume it's not? Would be sweet if it was DX10 compatible.

EDIT: ok read the rest of the pages from the link above, I see where you've already asked them if it's DX10 compatible.

So my question is, if we want to turn the DX9 Orbx NA GA traffic OFF do we just run the FTX AI Control Panel and "uncheck" all the options?

Just wondering how to make the default files come back?

P.S. I unchecked all the boxes in the FTX AI Control Panel, then loaded up FSX, still have greyed out AI traffic. Any suggestions?

EDIT: very strange, when I open my FTX AI Control Panel the box for "FSX Default Traffic" is greyed out, I cannot put a check-mark there. Page 4 of 14 in the FTX NA GA AI Traffic User Guide.pdf shows this same page but there "FSX Default Traffic" box looks as though you would be able to check/un-check it.

Yeah - I found the Orbx instructions convoluted and not wholly in agreement with the actual state.

Go into your Scenery\World\Scenery - down the bottom, and you should find the answers. Just put "OFF" or "XXX" on the traffic which you don't want to see, and make sure that the bgls that you want - look like these FSX default:-

trafficBoats.bgl,

trafficAircraft.bgl

I use MyTrafficX, and if the default traffic is disabled - it will look like this:-

trafficAircraft.bgl.passive

Orbx normal will look like:-

Traffic_Harvey.bgl

Traffic_Bowerman.bgl

Traffic_FallCity.bgl

If using the Orbx AI traffic with the normal Orbx traffic disabled - they will look like this:-

Traffic_Harvey.bgl.OFF

Traffic_Bowerman.bgl.OFF

Traffic_FallCity.bgl.OFF

and the Orbx AI entry will look like this:-

Traffic_FTX NA GA Traffic_Full Call Signs.bgl

Traffic_FTX NA Large Business Jets_Full Call Signs.bgl

Ask again if it doesn't become clearer - OK?

Just adding to Paul's post.

I also removed the ORBX NA Ai traffic by renaming the new traffic files to OFF, and reenabled the old ones. (Then I got AI traffic back at all ORBX airports) and removed all the FTX airplanes placed in the SimObjects\Aircraft folder.

One option (time permitting) would be to import the FTX NA AI traffic schedule info onto a traffic program. In my case My Traffic 2013.

Cheers.

Ramón.

Wow, that was a workout, probably not for a PC behind the scenes guy like you but I was worried for a min. I looked in my scenery/world/scenery folder like you suggested and all sorts of things were OFF.

I opened my FTX central, then pretty much when one by one and enable the AI traffic (turned it back on) for each of my sceneries.

I opened up FSX and loaded up at KHQM, the AI traffic was back to normal but the elevation was all fubar, i.e. the taxiways and rwy were all messed up.

I went back to the scenery/world/scenery folder and sure enough all my elevation changes were also set to OFF.

I didn't want to manually change them back so I re-ran the PNW.005 patch. This fixed everything back to normal.

I tell you what, that GA AI might be nice, but if you would rather use DX10 it sure can throw a fly in the ointment.

Now that everything is back to normal I tried messing w/ the water some more. From the same FSWC site I downloaded the SHD Wave Animation for DX10. http://www.strikings...click.php?id=20

Then I raised my water to 2.X High in the scenery settings of FSX (the highest, farthest right it would go). It looks pretty damn impressive. I have my fps locked on 30, when I have the water set to 2.x Low I get around 29.1-30, when I moved it to 2.x Mid I would get 26-29 fps, then I moved it all the way to 2.X High and I get 22-26fps.

Check this out! This is using the SHD Wave Animation for DX10 from FSWC (link above) and water settings set to 2.X High.

P.S. I'm also LOVING the A2A Shockwave lights!

Now THAT looks like water! Nice pic, too, Gig.

Thank you sir, the coolest thing is, which the pictures don't show are the waves rolling into the shore. In the still pictures they look more like lines or darker/lighter areas but when I'm flying you can see the actual waves! When I was doing my traffic pattern I was at 1300' so I was pretty close to the water and it still looks awesome to me.

Gus

How did you restore the original FSX water animations? I am using REX-E as well and the "sparkling".

Thanks!

In the REX-E configure tab, select the backup "initial_backup" and click the restore button beneath the selected backup name. This restores everything that REX-E has modified back to the FSX defaults (provided that you made such a backup when you first ran REX-E...right?) You then reinstall the REX-E stuff you want, making sure that you don't update the wave animation. To be really safe, uncheck all wave animation check boxes in the options tab before reinstalling.

As for FSWC-lite, I found its dx10 water shader really messes up the color consistency of water. Flying over a large lake at about 2500' makes it looks splotchy, like it's from a poorly renditioned paint-by-numbers painting (btw, this is noticable in the above screen shots). But thanks for the tip, FSWC+ may be the ticket for DX10 water; I'll wait to see if when released it gets it right.

I'm not sure if this paint by number is only at certain airports. I'm flying KBFI-KHQM now and flying over lakes and rivers the water looks amazing...will post screen shot after landing.

The effect I was talking about can be seen in the first screen shot in the portfolio your posted above my previous post. Note how the water's color appears as distinct green and blue patches; at altitude this really shows itself, at least where I like to fly. This effect really bothers me, so I'm to back to the default shader for now. BTW, I was not trying to diss your pics; they do look really good.

I guess my pictures were too big... no harm done, I was agreeing with you for some reason my water only seems to look like that around KHQM, not sure if it's something to do w/ the freeware Orbx KHQM addon or not. When I fly in the rest of the PNW areas my water doesn't do that. Who knows?
