October 1, 201213 yr Long story short I am getting a new gaming PC sometime in March, I currently have dual NVIDIA 9800GTs in my desktop which struggle to handle FSX. Lately I've been OCing one of the cards by 10% so instead of its default values of GPU Clock - 600mhz Memory Clock - 900mhz Shader Clock - 1500mhz They are GPU clock - 660mhz Memory Clock - 990mhz Shader Clock - 1650mhz I've been only OCing the card which has the high GPU load from FSX, the cards temp hovers around 82-84c when FSX is running. When the one card is OCed FSX runs much better and I average 22-24 FPS and not a fluxuating 14-20 FPS. Is this going to hurt anything? Will it be better to overclock both cards? Are they worth upgrading if I will only have the system for another half year? Any input is much appreciated. Thanks, Tom "I just wanna tell you both: good luck. We're all counting on you."
October 1, 201213 yr No don't upgrade. When you buy your new one, get a 660, that'll help a lot! ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee
October 1, 201213 yr Don't bother too much with OCing those cards... A new GTX660 or GTX660Ti would make a massive difference in FPS.
October 1, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the replies, I was not thinking of upgrading but I threw it out there as an option. I am new to OCing and still am trying to figure out if its okay to OC these cards and whether doing just one or both is a better option. Thanks, Tom "I just wanna tell you both: good luck. October 1, 201213 yr I have yet to be convinced there's a better card for FSX than a GTX 580.( Having tried 570, 660ti and 580). Those 9800's were monsters though when they came out running FS2004.
October 1, 201213 yr Author Those 9800's were monsters though when they came out running FS2004. And they still are when I am flying FS9, I need to fix my blurries though which is a completely separate issue. Tom "I just wanna tell you both: good luck. We're all counting on you."
October 6, 201213 yr And they still are when I am flying FS9, I need to fix my blurries though which is a completely separate issue. Your blurries will improve significantly when you upgrade your GPU so take the jump now. Overclocking the cards doesn't do much difference. GTX660 or GTX660ti are two good upgrades that you can take with you to your new Haswell? build next year...
