My Upgrade from E8600

Featured Replies

Well I finally upgraded my computer. Actually it's a new one. This is going to be an FSX only machine using Simconnect.

I have decided that I did not want to OC and felt more comfortable backing off a little on my setup. A lot of my decision was based on the experience with my E8600 where I could get 30 fps except in heavy scenery areas like FSDT KDFW and flying the PMDG B737 where the fps would drop to about 15-20. The one thing I did was follow the guidelines set out by PMDG and their recommended tweaks which were similar to those offered by Costas.

The hard part will be getting Simconnect up and running because it's been a while since I originally set it up. I run ASE and Vatsim (SQ4) on my main computer so the need for Simconnect. I figure it will take a couple of weeks to get everything reinstalled and the bugs sorted out.

I got a look of good ideas from this forum so thinks to all for your ideas.

2400 mHz DDR3 RAM maybe? Might as well maximize every aspect.

Should be a nice setup, we'll just see how long it takes before you cave in and start overclocking for more eye candy and higher frame rates. ;)

Looks good. When you get around to setting up your Simconnect, here is a very helpful document and files.

GSkill DDR3 2400MHZ would be 10% faster in FSX and is nearly the same price.

Be sure to follow Max's guide on how to de-lid these CPUs. - You OC potential is very limited without it.

Finally got my new machine up and running with most of the software installed.

It is running as hoped. I've set it up using Ryan's guidelines in PMDG, the suggestions in the PMDG B737NGX manual and the adjustments suggested by ******* Altuve.

If there is a choice between settings, I always go with the more conservative setting.

There is no overclocking.
