DX10 flickering airport taxiways

Featured Replies

Hi there,

after checking various airports I recognized still flickering taxiways and apron by day and night, e.g.

San Diego (FSX default) and Eugene (ORBX PNW).

Only DX10 previev: flickering runways, taxiways, apron....as awaited and known

DX10+shader V3.1.: Runway ok, but the flickering from taxiways and apron still remains.

in FSX antialiasing and anisotropic filtering ticked. Also included in the fsx.cfg are the tweaking proposols acc. to the how-to doc recommendations.

I do not use Nvidia inspector, as the calibration factors can be set in the orig. Nvidia menu (driver 306.23).

Any help or advise appriciated.

Wulf

Post your PC specs, Wulf, the fsx.cfg (as a txt attachment) - and install Inspector using the medium (4xSGSS and 4xS) settings, OK? We need to see your setup and how it's configured...

FWIW, I disabled MegaScenery SoCal and flew over and around the default San Diego and did not see any flickering.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi there,

as recommended I installed NV Inspector using the medium (4xSGSS and 4xS) settings.

Now the flickering is gone, FPS are generally 30 (30 locked) with exception of bigger airports with 20 to 25, which is ok for me. Thanks for this great support.

enclosed an excerpt of the FSX.cfg

Beautiful!! Well done, Wulf!

The only thing you might want for a bit better performance is a bit more speed from the proc - other than that, my friend - you have an ideal setup!.. I like that 27" monitor!.

I had the 950 with the Muggen 2: it's a great cooler isn't it.

Thanks for your post - it's great to see success. :drinks:

Since you have a 40 inch monitor, WideViewAspect=False in your FSX.cfg should be changed to True. Plus, TextureMaxLoad=30 is way, way, way too high. FSX default is 6 (FS9 is 3). Anything over 12 is like destroying, well maybe taking over all your video memory. But my understanding of this 'tweak' is that it defaults to 6 and is useless if you set your fps to unlimited. Most techies recommend this line be left out of the fsx.cfg or set it at the default.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks for your feedback, Jim.

I checked WideViewAspect=True and False, where the zoom factors are only varied IMHO.

WVA=False, zoom factor=0,5 (my current setting) ~ WVA=True, zoom factor=0,9

Wulf

Yeah - you're right, Jim: When using a 470 and frames limited to 30, that figure should not exceed 6, with a TBM of 80. That "12" is an additional multiplier used to set the amount of data the gpu will take. As you already have a TBM multiplier, this merely multiplies that effective resultant to an even higher figure.

I was not really understanding what was behind the comments made above about TML. However, I did find this explanation here which may be helpful to others like me
