I can almost smell the cold coffee.. :)

One nit though.. That cockpit config ain't quite right for a Southwest plane.

They don't use the integrated backpup. All analog backups. And no range

rings with the TCAS. They use the round fuel indicators, and only the upper

pressure box on the lower DU..

Or as far as I've seen so far from all the various videos, etc..

It'll look like this with the Collins MCP.. A good number of their older ones use

the Honeywell.. So either can be considered correct. Of course, all the new

ones use the Collins. So a Honeywell on a new 800 would be verboten if one

is as picky as I am.. :/ BTW, they do use the HGS. And they don't do autolands.

That's why they don't bother with the newer backup instrument. Or I assume anyway..

ISFD versus analog backup instruments has absolutely nothing to do with autoland capabilities. Any 737NG with analog backup instruments will do autolands just fine.

 

An ISFD is only important to have if you want to have the option of fail operational autolands. Most airlines don't seem to pick the fail operational autoland option on top of the ISFD, though. Much in contrast to most PMDG 737NGX drivers ;)

Realize that, but I was thinking that most carriers that do autolands would prefer

the ISFD.

I didn't realize that most didn't choose fail op with those.. I was thinking all planes

that had the ISFD were fail op capable, but in cycling it between ISFD and analog,

I see now that is doesn't cycle the fail passive to fail op with the change.

I rarely ever use the ISFD myself.. Both of my usual runners are analog, and

both are fail passive.

I'll do an autoland with my private 600 every once in a while just fer kicks..

Yep, I've got the analog standby outfit on all my aircraft too. My interaction with the standby unit in the standard non-failure case is limited to keeping the altimeter setting in sync. Don't know if the real-world NG drivers even bother.

 

I do autolands only if weather conditions require it, which is hardly ever the case on my routes. However... fall is approaching rapidly. That may bring the weather for some nice CATII/III approaches.
