Convince me...Which nVidia GTX680?

Featured Replies

Alright fellow simmers.

It's upgrade time again and as promised I will be joining the nVidia ranks.

So...

EVGA 04G-P4-3685-KR GeForce GTX 680 FTW Standard, w/Backplate 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - In Stock!

or

EVGA 04G-P4-3687-KR GeForce GTX 680 FTW+ w/Backplate 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - Not In Stock!

Considerations:

  • Price difference is negligible.
  • I realize this card is likely overkill for FSX but, "Nothing succeeds like excess."

Not sure when Newegg will have the "+" version in stock and I am in no real rush to buy.

What say you nVidia experts?

I know the 700 series is due in March but I think the GTX 680 is my "forever card" for FSX.

I await your opinions.

Daniel Fernandez

Might as well get a 660ti, As Ben will suggest soon! :

OP:

Get whichever one is in stock. - The 680 default is a complete beast... FTW is taking it to a whole new level of performance with SGSS. - You are seriously going to be able to run 8xS + 4xSGSS without a major loss in FPS.

These sardonicism is rude and unnecessary. I don't appreciate the teasing.

I appreciate the feedback so far.

Ben...as always thanks for the solid knowledge.

You sure I won't miss that "+"?

You guys got to be kidding... talk about thin-skinned... a little - what appears to be friendly - teasing... and what Chase ? you threaten to boot him?

Ben... I don't see this in your specs... you running this in another system?

TIA.

Not a "friendly-tease"....Thin skinned? Gimme a break....

I just don't appreciate bitter sarcasm... - I can very easily differentiate the two. I know when someone is being honest and sincere.

I never said I was booting anyone. I quoted a section of the ToS incident to observing borderline behavior.

Sincerely,

Chase

Well... it appears very thin-skinned... immature and way over the top hyperbole to call it "sardonic"

If you think that bitter sarcasm... woof...

Better if you took your bickering over something petty to PM.

borderline behavior

Wow... ok then...

Rendi... my apologies for calling you a "young one" earlier, when it appears you may have less than a handful of years on me...

If FTW or FTW+, I don't think it's gonna matter for FSX one bit. Overclocking my GTX580 quite a lot brings me very little advantage in FSX, for your info.

Well Ben Cap and Word Not Allowed have weighed in and both spend considerable time looking at these configs to optimize FSX. I'll place the order and the next step will be asking you gents and the forum to help me get the graphics upgrade up and running.

This evening I officially join "The Dark Side". : )
