October 13, 201213 yr Hi people, I have a problem in that I want to backup my keyboard commands that I have made within FSX Controls. I end up deleting the majority of them as they're not needed by me but they always end up re-appearing if I choose to delete my FSX.cfg every now and then. October 13, 201213 yr Author Well once I'd set my keyboard commands I moved the standard.xml file out of that folder and then replaced it and all the controls went back to the default. I think that must be the file FSX uses to set the default keyboard commands. Gavin Price
October 14, 201213 yr I had the same once. It seems FSX doesn't like you to delete certain commands. I don't know which ones, though. I use a lot of key settings that I added externally by modifying the xml file in an editor. And it works fine. I guess it's a trial and error thing to find out which ones not to delete. I'm not sure whether or not I've done it right but I set all my keyboard commands within FSX and then made a copy of the standard.xml within the controls foler then renamed it to GAVIN.xml I then changed the current controls within the FSX.cfg to GAVIN. October 15, 201213 yr I would not change the keyboard entry in the fsx.cfg. Just make a backup copy of the standard.xml. When you need to use the backup just delete the standard.xml and rename the backup to standard.xml. If you ever need the default keys, just delete standard.xml and fsx will create a new one. October 15, 201213 yr Not quite, Gavin: The new xml needs a little tweaking inside. First:- You can do exactly what you said, Gavin with both the fsx.cfg and the standard.xml; You can create any number of fsx.cfg's, renaming them as anything you want - like IFR.cfg, Helicopter.cfg, NGX.cfg, and then when you're ready to use them - you simply rename that one "fsx.cfg", and FSX will use that one. For the controls - it's slightly more complicated.. similar process - but you need to be careful, as the name you put in the fsx.cfg under the [Controls] section (which is normally calling the "standard".xml file) let's say you called the new file - "helicopter.xml" - that has to be the name of the new xml. Now - the biggee - inside the xml is that new file name: Her is the default name:- SimBase.Document Type="Controls" version="1,0" id="Standard"> <Descr>Controls Mapping File</Descr> <Filename>Standard.XML</Filename> <SimControls.Map> and here is the file you created:- <SimBase.Document Type="Controls" version="1,0" id="Helicopter"> <Descr>Controls Mapping File</Descr> <Filename>Helicopter.XML</Filename> <SimControls.Map> You have to edit the xml manually. No mistakes. That's all. When you use the helicopter.cfg, you will rename it "fsx.cfg" and it will use the helicopter.xml. When you done rotoring 'round the countyside - you simply rename this fsx.cfg as "Helicopter.cfg again, and go back to the original fsx.cfg - which of course uses the "standard.xml. I have the full version of FSUIPC and do use that to set my controls but the thing I want to do is basically delete all the standard fsx key commands because I hardly use any. It then frees up a load of buttons I can use for other things. It gets annoying after deleting all those keyboard commands in FSX for it to reset everytime I create a fresh fsx.cfg. Gavin Price
