October 14, 201213 yr Moderator I normally donot use the flight planner so I don't know what's causing this. When I try to load a saved flight i the fp, there are no pln files listed. Even if I save a plan and then try to load t, it doesnt show i the selection list. The folder is correct and I have full permissions. system is w764. P3d is on it's own drive. UAC is off. If I try to load a FLIGHT rather than a plan, it works fine! Any thoughts? Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160

October 18, 201213 yr No the default Save works well. I wonder whether you are actually saving completely ie finishing the process. Both P3D and FSX have the irritating requirement that forces you to Save a plan once you have finished building it, and won't load the GPS until you do. So don't cancel out of that process, you must save the plan before you can use it, even if you plan to use it once only.Later you can delete it from the users\user\Document\Prepar3d Files. When you do want to reuse it, select Load on the Flightplanner and choose the flight, which it will the insert into the flightplan for you to adjust or accept. (It will then require you to Save it again and ask whether you want to over write the existing file. You have no option but to say yes. ON the other hand don't mix up the Save a flight options, with save a flightplan. Two different animals. KInd regards, Ian McPhail
October 18, 201213 yr Author Moderator Wish that were the problem Ian - i can save the plan and exit P3D completely and when I restart and go to the flight planner - no files are listed. I have about 40 PLN files in the folder and nothing displays. The SAVE is working fine for both the PLN filers and the FLT files - it's just that the PLN files do not display in the dialog. I have never seen this before unless the file extension was incorrect and, in P3D it's preset to pln. Strange. Probably will just wait until there's another update or until I have to reinstall for another reason. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
October 19, 201213 yr The .pln files need to be in .xml. You can convert with PlanG. Open your pln files, then saveas FSX. That will write them in .xml. Now they will show up. John

John Then you are saying that P3D doesn't save it's own files in the proper format? I can't see the PLN files I've saved IN P3D itself. And to my recollection, all PLN files are in text format. October 19, 201213 yr When you need a .pln.you use the Flight planner to load a .pln in .xml When you load a saved flight it will be a .flt John
October 19, 201213 yr Vic, FSX also saves the .pln files in XML format. Just open one in Notepad and you will see that. I'll bet, also, that the P3D pln files are also in that format and what you are seeing is some sort of bug. I'm booted into Xp right now but in a bit I will boot to my Win7 x64 partition where I have P3D installed and have a look-see at this process. The FLT files are just 'regular' text files while the PLN files are text files created with the "AceXML" Paul EDIT: Vic, I just checked and I can save and load a flight plan in P3D just fiine. Are you sure you are going back to the 'Flight Planner" to load your saved flights and NOT selecting "Load" from the "Flights" menu bar? I see my saved flights in that window and the saved flight plan when I select "Flight Planner..." and then "Load".
October 20, 201213 yr Author Moderator Paul - I start P3D - I open flightplanner - I create a flightplan - I save the flightplan. I exit P3D. Start p3d - open flightplanner - select LOAD - no plans are displayed. That's about the fewest steps. The folder is the default and when look with explorer the PLN file I us saved is there! It's not that the files won't open it's that they just don't show in the selection box - the whole field is blank so I cannot select one to open. The load 'flights' works perfectly. It's strange. October 20, 201213 yr Hummm....well that certainly is strange! Are your file names for those pln files plain text without any special characters? I don't have any suggestions as the process you describe is correct and the fact that the files do exist seems to indicate that the 'save' feature is working fine. Perhaps try changing the name of the saved file to something linke 'save_1.plan, save_2.pln etc and see if those show up. Paul (out of ideas)
October 20, 201213 yr Author Moderator Tried all of that Paul - even tried loking through al the .dll's with a editor t see if I could spot any corruption. Checked all permissions - created a temp folder and pointed P3d to that - checked the registry entries - nada! Thin I'll just try a repair install and see what hapens. Appreciate the brainstorming! October 20, 201213 yr You'll be pleased to know you're not alone with this issue. I have exactly the same problem. The .pln files are in the correct place but do not show up for selection in the flight planner window. It's not a big problem for me as I rarely repeat a flight plan. The flight planner works fine and will load straight into a flight and it will also save but the saved file can not be re-selected. Ian
October 21, 201213 yr Author Moderator Thanx Ian FWIW, the repair install had no effect. Guess I'll have to repost in the official P3D forum. They never responded the first time. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
October 21, 201213 yr Guess I'll have to repost in the official P3D forum. They never responded the first time. I'll look out for your post there and back it up. It may be more common but, like me, people don't use it often. Ian EDIT: just backed up your post in the official P3D forum
