Would somebody mind explaining why sometimes it takes me 2-3 minutes to get the autopilot to engage on some flights ?

Paul, this is a common question, the answer is inside the intro manual, it will get time because you need to have the controls to neutral (release the joystick) if you're flying with realistic AP engagement selected in the FMC.

Paul, if you have no force in the controls and are at least 400 AGL you would be able to engage A/P.

It should never take 2-3 minutes - what is the exact scenario/situation you're seeing that in?

This has happened to me, all I did was forgot to set the TRIM. once I set the elevator trim, all worked as it should!
