October 23, 201213 yr Is there any way to shorten the flight distance even more than the game sliders allow? I have about 30 flights listed and only 5 of them are less than 100nm. Longest is 390nm, average is around 190nm or so. I don't have time in the evening to fly for 2 hours+ just for 1 flight, and frankly I also find it boring. I've been 16x speeding the game up but might as well not fly at all cause it really isn't enjoyable flying in a blurry, rounded landscape. Ideally, I'd like to limit the trips to 45min or less. I'm set up in Alaska btw.
October 23, 201213 yr I'm set up in Alaska btw. Right there's your answer..AK hasn't got nearly as many airports, and they are further apart, than a lot of places..I've got a base near AK (CYPR) and I only get a few flights in and out of AK (PAWG, PAGS and very occasionally PASI); they are mostly to BC, Washington and N. Oregon..I've got my sliders set half way and I often get a short flight (<1h) , but then I have two more bases in the PNW US as well.. What plane are you using? best jake JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
October 23, 201213 yr Author I've got Tongass Fjord X addon, and centered my base in it, so it populates quite a few more airports. I'm on Medium difficulty using my imported Beaver X (sold the Caravan to buy it) and lease my imported PBY Catalina X. Lot of X's, heh. So what would be a good area to start a new Company in so the majority of the distances are not much more than 45min trips?
October 23, 201213 yr the UK, France; Southern California; ..Anywhere that's highly populated and has lots of close-up conurbations (I know - boring)..also, the larger your plane, the less likely it is you'll get jobs to the smaller strips - even if you set that all the way to the left, and you are using a 744, it won't give you jobs to small strips (obv.)..it's a fine balance.. what mode did you start in? I've been hooked on AH for about two years now Got two separate co's; one in PNW with 4 planes (Epic Dynasty; C340; C208 and the Legacy, which I fly :Big Grin: and 2 pilots, as above (bases CYPR; S52; KJAC and 7S9) and one in Oz and Nz, with too many bases to list (I got carried away) 3 C5's, a 737-800NG (and another Legacy) and 4 pilots..Keep at it! It gets better once you have some dosh in the bank - you can buy a faster plane :Big Grin: jake EDIT and btw, I started both in career mode with a Cessna..The PNW was much easier - my first base was 7S9 - there's lots of little strips around there to fly in and out of JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
October 23, 201213 yr Keep in mind the range of the aircraft also determine the distance of the jobs. I have my distance meter set to the 3rd notch from the left and at the base PASI I get most of my jobs under 100nm to water air strips with the Grumman G21A. The Grumman has around 600 nm range. Yeah, maybe I need to totally restart and set it to Hard so the starting plane is the Cessna 172 with low flying range.
October 24, 201213 yr Author Did a quick test. Not working out too well at all. Gained only 2 <100nm jobs while easily tripling and doubling >100nm and >200nm distances respectively. Not what I'm looking for. :( Number of jobs set to min, shortest flight distance set. Number of jobs set to max, shortest flight distance set.
October 24, 201213 yr I've got Tongass Fjord X addon, and centered my base in it, so it populates quite a few more airports. Just to make sure. Have you used the import scenery option in AirHauler? Otherwise AirHauler will not be aware of any of the airfields added by Fjord X. October 24, 201213 yr Number of jobs set to max, shortest flight distance set. ^^ What Jarkko says.. And, to be fair, there are 34 jobs on this page, and 9 of them are <100NM..That's nearly a quarter..It's about right..It takes a while to get started with AH, especially on career mode, but stick with it! You can always fly a short jobn, fly back home and then fly another one. It's highly unlikely, at this early stage, to get back and forward jobs (from the srtip you just flew into back to your home base) JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
October 24, 201213 yr I had a base north of Anchorage (Wasilla?), using the Beaver. I had the trip length wound right down to the left. My shortest job was 2nm - I could see the destination from where I was parked. I ventured down into Tongass - but you have to be careful that you don't get a job to a boat waypoint (which AH reads as an airport), only to get told you're X number of miles from the destination because the destination had the indecency to move! The PBY will be blowing out your job lengths. I vaguely remember there is a way to get AH to ignore that aircraft, but then I'm not sure if you can still use it if you set that up. I could be wrong with that. Mike Dryden
October 24, 201213 yr Author I'm going to try and set the Range of the Cessna airplane.cfg to a very low value and see what AH does with job generation.
October 24, 201213 yr Ok giving away Air Hauler secrets. "Spoiler" You don't have to change the aircraft .cfg because if you did you would have to import the aircraft again. All you need to do is look at your aircraft you have bought and right click on the aircraft and change the range there. It will take a little bit for the jobs to drop off and new ones to be assigned with the new range value. Tim Curtis MSFS2020, i7-9900k 5.0Ghz, 32GB Ram, Nvidia 3080, 48" LG OLED CX
October 24, 201213 yr heh There's a couple of other 'spoilers' for AH but I won't give them away here..You'll find them out in good time.. BUT you do know you can save your flight mid-way through and take it up later, don't you? Done many a long flight that way - just make sure you pick one that expires a long time away and you can do it over two nights..that way, you can do scenic routes through the scenery and still do your 40 mins per night flying And, also there's some great threads over at the AH forums, here jake JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
October 25, 201213 yr Author OMG, just finished 4 jobs in one flight but all were a little late so I get a -8 reputation!! Plus I only get 10% money, jeez, harsh. Would of dropped the stupid cargo seaside had I know this was gonna happen. Edit: Figured out how to force lots of short distance jobs. Trick is like others said, change Range of plane. BUT then you still sit there with current far jobs you don't want in the job board. Fix is to exit AH, advance computer system date by 2 days or so, start AH, AH will regen jobs. But now dates are all messed up. Quit AH again. Change computer system date back to proper date, restart AH, AH regen jobs again all with proper dates and distances of choice. Happy flying.
