REX problem

Featured Replies

Sorry if this is not the place to post this, but I've tried the REX website forums and the last time anyone responded to a question was back in September. Normally, I never have any trouble with add-ons, and I can figure things out. But this one has me stumped.

I have FSX Gold installed (but not acceleration) and REX ESsential. REX seems to load OK, weather gets processed (although it takes forever), and FSX launches. However, after that, I'm not sure if all is well.

The little weather radar screen comes on, and FSX loads behind it. FSX takes off ('user defined weather' is checked), but nothing more happens with the weather radar; in fact, I can't find it. I can move it to another screen when it first appears, but it has no information on it. And, I never see the "weather being injected" green message across top.

And it's always clear, with a few cirrus clouds (even when I know the weather where Im flying isn't).

I hope this isn't too confusing, and Ive gone through the REX manual, to no avail.

Thanks in advance for any help, and I'll go back to fiddling with it.

John

Hello

From a REX support person regarding a question posted yesterday.

Are you running rexe as administrator? Right click the desktop icon and choose "run as administrator".

For the long load times, there is a woraround until SP1 or Essentials+ comes out.

Please do the following to increase your performance until Service Pack 1 is released:

1.) In the CONFIGURATION MANAGER/WEATHER TAB please enable the "enable archive weather data purge"

2.) In the CONFIGURATION MANAGER/WEATHER TAB please disable the "enable weather interpoloation of weather stations."

3.) In the CONFIGURATION MANAGER/WEATHER TAB please disable the "enable weather data overwrite".

4.) Finally if you have MS Access you can run a repair and compact database funcion on the mdb file.

Please note that we will be releasing a program that allows the users to compact/repair their databases when we release Service Pack 1.

Cheers.

Ramón.

Thanks, Kabronicus.

REX support is very fast, mostly you get help within minutes, there are plenty fresh replies from the last few days. If you are unable to find replies there since September you need to delete your browser cache... Register with your order number and get prime support.

Sorry, Mr. Steen.

I didnt mean to imply lax support.

My apologies.

Still no go on REX, even after suggestions.

Whenever FSX fires up, in full view mode, the screen goes black. Only when I switch out of full view does the sim and the REX weather radar become visible. (Odd thing: it's black all around them, but as I sweep my pointer across desktop, chunks of it become visible. REX screen still has no information in it. FS will go back to full screen, run as usual, and when I exit, the REX screen allows me to return to REX main menu. But still no weather info.

It's a puzzle.

No need to apologise Mr. White, I have no interest in REX other than having REC myself, and did not reckognise your experience. Being a noob with REX myself I have been baffeled by the fast and friendly support ;-)

I have FSX Gold installed (but not acceleration)

Acceleration comes with FSX Gold and includes SP1 and SP2. If you did not install Acceleration, did you install SP1 and SP2?

Best regards,

Jim

Hey, Jim.Yeah, I installed SP1 and SP2. I started to install Acceleration, didnt really care for all the extra aircraft and decided not to, and it told me I needed to uninstall SP2, which I didnt do.

Just can't understand why it's not working. Usually, when a new addon comes out, and everyone is screaming, "This doesnt work," and "that doesnt work," Im usually one who can say, "Gee, it works perfectly for me." But REX has been a problem. Wish I could figure it out.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion.

That's correct. You cannot install Acceleration over SP2 and glad there is a warning that you can't do that. REX has been a problem for many here. Do you have the line: highmemfix=1 in the Graphics section of your FSX.cfg? You also may have your settings set too high as it sounds like you are starving your system and it is having an issue rendering things. I don't own REX but hopefully someone here will identify your problem(s) and get you a fix.

Best regards,

jim
