Which Video Card to Keep?

Featured Replies

I have my choice of keeping one of two graphics cards: either an EVGA 9600GT #01G-P3-N869-AR with 1GB and the standard 650MHz clock, or another EVGA 9600GT #512-P3-N868-AR which is 512MB but stock-superclocked to 740MHz.

So which is better? More memory or higher clock for FSX in the GPU department?

Thanks for your help!!!

Given the choice, I would keep the 1GB version - but frankly, a GTX460 or better would be

a real improvement for FSX, over a 9600GT. I used to have one installed and it works fine,

but the current cards are so much better!

I realize newer cards are usually better - but I'm working on a limited budget for now and have come by these cards at a garage sale for suuuuper cheap.

Faster clock speed is better!!!

Given that neither of the cards is capable of high AA settings (that might warrant the higher memory usage case) I'd recommend the higher clocked 512MB version. But to put it frankly I wouldn't recommend either. I can't see what CPU it's to be used with but anything apart from a slow old AMD processor will be held back by that GPU. And that's with only in game AA.
