October 29, 201213 yr I have a CH Fighterstick USB. I have all the buttons setup in FSX using the FSX controls setup. All work well. I would like to use one of my buttons to send the keystroke "1" so I can answer ATC without having to use the mouse or the keypad. I don't see any way to do it as the ATC keystrokes are not in the FSX Controls setup. I have the registered FSUIPC4 but don't understand how to use it for joystick setup. Can anyone please tell me what I have to do, in detail, to accomplish this, if it possible? Thanks, regards, Bob.
October 29, 201213 yr First, I presume that you are not using CH Control Manager to program any of your Fighterstick's buttons, right? If that's so, then your stick in operating in direct mode, meaning that FSX is directly detecting your stick's buttons as defined by directX input. I also presume that you have a button "free", meaning that it's not assigned any FSX command or function and that you intend to use this free button as your ATC response button. So far, so good. Run FSX, launch a free flight, and then open the FSUIPC4 window by clicking on FSUIPC in the Addon menu within FSX. Click on the Buttons + Switches tab within FSUIPC. On that page, you'll be offered numerous options for programming your stick's buttons. Yours is a simple need to meet. Put a check within the "Select for key press" box on the upper left side of the FSUIPC window. Then press the stick's button you want to use for ATC - press the "Set" button within FSUIPC just below the "Reload all buttons" and opposite the text "Press the key(s) to be sent when you press this button" - and in the pop-up box that appears, press "1" on your keyboard. Close FSUIPC by clicking on the "OK" button at the bottom right. Done. From now on, when running FSX, that button on your stick will send to FSX a "1" keypress, which will serve as your ATC response. There are other ways to accomplish this, but here's one simple way to use FSUIPC for it. Hope this helps. Wayne KlocknerUnited Virtual
October 29, 201213 yr Author Hi Wayne. Thanks. That's exactly what I needed. I'll try it. I really do thank you for the excellent help. Best regards, Bob. Update: I followed your instructions. The only difference was that the "Select for key press" was grayed out until I pressed the joystick button. Once I pressed the joystick button it removed the gray out and I was able to put the check in the box. It works like a charm!!!! Thanks. I really do appreciate it. Why couldn't the FSUIPC readme pdf just include a step by step procedure, in a simple to understand procedure, like you gave me. Best regards, Bob.
