Shutdown Flow

Featured Replies

Greetings All -

I've noticed over the past few flights when I arrive at the gate (engines off, parking brake set), the F/O says "ready for shutdown".

I reply with "Shutdown Checklist".

The F/O 95% doesn't even respond. The other times he has. Am I missing a specific action or trigger to make him respond with the Shutdown Checklist?

Thanks!

Ready for shutdown means you can cut the engines now. You say that your engines are already off. Maybe you're skipping this step?

What's supposed to happen is once you cut the engines a handful of actions happen--one of them being the ground crew letting you know that the wheel chocks are in.

Then, you can call for the shutdown checklist.

Hi Rob,

This is the procedure:

Shutdown

  • After FO calls: “READY FOR SHUTDOWN”, set engine start levers to cut-off. (If using the GPU at the arrival gate, shut down engine #2 first, connect the GPU, and then shutdown engine #1). Click here for more information.
  • The FA will call the cockpit. You will hear a ‘chime’ sound and the FA button on the FS2Crew Main Panel will say ‘On’. Speak “YES” to reply to the FA.
  • Release the parking brakes after the chocks are in place.
  • After the slides have been reported disarmed, announce via PA: “CABIN CREW – DOORS MAY BE OPENED”. This is a necessary trigger to open the doors.
  • Call “SHUTDOWN CHECKLIST”.
  • When the Ground Crew contacts you, reply "GO AHEAD". He'll tell you that the chocks are in. Make sure that the Audio Control Panel is properly configured or he won't be able to hear you.

Make sure you see "Shutdown Checklist" in the green bar; that way you at least know the speech recognition system is hearing what you're saying.

Also, make sure the Mode in the FS2Crew panel says "Shutdown".

Cheers,

I'm wondeirng if it is a speech recognition issue. I'm definetly following the steps you mentioned.

It's something with the speech recon. Different words pop up, but eventually "Shutdown Checklist" works.

I have to say it 10-15 times, then he'll eventually catch on and start performing his flow.

Hi Rob,

Are you an American?

If so, you should easily get well over 95 plus accuracy on the 1st go with speech recognition, assuming your mic and computer are operating properly.

Even non native English speakers can get fantastic results.

So my guess is you might have a problem with your mic.

Or you're saying the phrase in a really odd way.

Yes, I am an American :)

Could be my Western NY slang ;) . I'll run the speech recong again and see if that works.
