After months of quality simming I am now cursed with constant CTD's.

I have tried everything.

Seems the api.dll curse has hit and here to stay.

Did you try the api.dll patcher found at the following topic in this forum? It seems to have helped others.

Jim,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you....

I have tried that among other things but no success.

My faulting modules are mainly API.DLL with a few others thrown into the mix including msvcr100.dll.

Pulling my hair out as up until my previous post I had one CTD in three months, now its 3 or 4 during a 2 hour session.

The one thing I had done around the time of the CTD's was install ORBX's YRED Airport and ORBX NA NRM Scenery. Before these two sceneries were added life behind the yoke was brilliant.

The one thing I had done around the time of the CTD's was install ORBX's YRED Airport and ORBX NA NRM Scenery. Before these two sceneries were added life behind the yoke was brilliant.

You need to find out if these scenery's are the fault for your crashes. FTX/ORBX scenery do require some additional computer resources but not that much. Just open FTX Central and select the default scenery and see if that fixes the problem. If so, then you have narrowed the problem down to a memory issue. Your settings are calling for too many system resources and it cannot handle the load. In the FTX utility they have a tab entitled Orbx Control Panels. This is eye-candy an you might need to turn some of those off.

Did you also download and run App Crash View - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html or did you find out the cause of the crash by looking in your Event Viewer? Is it only API.dll that's crashing as there could be other things wrong with your system that are contributing to the API crashes.

Whenever there's a CTD after a two-hour session in FSX, it is most likely an issue with overheating. Overheating will cause this type of crash. You need to make sure your system is not overheating - http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/cs-029426.htm.

Your system specs indicate you have an i7 CPU but what is the brand? 2600K? I see you are overclocked to 3.9GHz which seems strange. If you have a locked CPU like the 2600, then you can only overclock up to 4.2GHz. Did you manually overclock your system or did you push one of those ASUS buttons and had it done automatically? If you had it done automatically, then your problem is definitely your overclock settings as ASUS boards have issues managing memory settings in the BIOS. If the memory frequency is set to Auto, you will most likely get a crash. If you manually set the memory frequency, then it could be too high for the overclocking profile.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks Jim,

I think that's a typo re the processor. It's an intel i7 2700 running at turbo 3.9.

I have been using event viewer to check the faulting .dll.

It's mainly msvcr80.dll and api.dll.

I will do as you suggest and might even look at my UT2 traffic sliders. Currently mine are set at 100% daily traffic. Perhaps a bit on the high side?

What I was saying, in your My PC settings in your profile, you just indicate you have an Intel i7. It should read i7 2700. You do have the unclocked version. The msvcr80.dll is related to Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables. If you have your UT2 traffic sliders to 100%, that's probably the culprit as anything over 40% is a killer on fps. Just wondering why the MS Visual dll showed up in one of your crash reports.

Jim

Jim,

It's my opinion that fsx CTD's whenever it damn well feels like it.

Completed a couple of flights and another couple of flights CTD'd after 5 mins and 15 mins.

So 2 out of 4 ain't bad I suppose.

If do have any suggestions I am happy to look at them. Fsx has a mind of its own though and I don't think the CTD's will ever disappear.

Glad you posted your error report as I think I found the problem. The Exception Code c000000d means Status_Invalid_Parameter. This is often caused by a wrong version of a dll. The error report indicates the MSVCR80.dll is the wrong version FSX is looking for. I have the same version of FSX installed FSX/w Acceleration. The latest version of this dll on my system is 8.0.50727.3079 dated 7/6/2012. It belongs to MS Visual 2005. Yours looks slightly order and may have been recently installed as another security update in Windows Update or it could have been installed by another piece of software and the right version was removed. You want to make sure you have MS Visual C++ 2005 with SP1. Then look down at the bottom of the page and you'll see a security update to MSV 2005. That should have been installed when Acceleration was released but did not make the Acceleration package. It can be found here - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5638. In any case, this is what the error report states.

I really don't know which version of MSVCR80.dll is used by FSX and it may or may not use the version I posted above (3079). But, FSX is looking for the version it installed when FSX and Acceleration were installed. That's why I have several copies of this .dll on my system. Each version is used for different programs not necessarily related to FSX. They are of varying sizes too from 612KB to 803KB on my system. So, if reinstalling the SP1 to MSV 2005 and the security update doesn't work, then I highly recommend you do a repair of FSX by inserting the first disk and selecting the repair option. Remember you'll have to do this for Acceleration too. It shouldn't affect any FSX files except it will replace your FSX.cfg to the default. The working copy of your scenery.cfg should remain intact as well as the dll.xml and exe.xml but you might want to back up these folders anyway just in case. Then, once the repair is done, you can simply copy over your configs.

Hope this fixes things.

Best regards,

Jim

On the link I provided, look down at the bottom of the page and look for What Others are Downloading. It will show you all the updates to the 2005 MSV and any security update.

Jim

Thanks Jim,

I've downloaded the file from your link.

I'm reading through the list under What Others Are Downloading but everything is referenced to C++ 2010??

Is it the ATL security update for C++2005 I need?

Yes. I'm sorry if that wasn't there. It was there when I went to the site.
