Airports not in database

Featured Replies

Good evening,

I have Navdata Pro from Aerosoft installed for the MD11. Unfortunately some military or private airports are missing in the database.

In this case, is it still possible to program the MCDU and fly between airports not present in database ?

I know that there is an option for defined waypoints, I tried to create defined waypoints named by their ICAO code by inserting the coordinates of the departure and arrival airports. I also created defined runways. But in the INIT page when I tried to put FROM/TO airports using the defined waypoints, it told me "not allowed". I couldn't enter any cost index value, I could enter the route, but nothing was calculated, no ETA, no take off performance, no reference speeds, no optimum level, no TOC, no TOD etc (due to the missing cost index).

It would be great if someone could tell me how to do that. Or maybe it is not implemented in the PMDG MD11 ?

You may find better answers by posting elsewhere but I am pretty sure you will find that the FMC always looks back into the database information held within the PMDG main folder. I discovered this when I "dabled" a bit with making up some approach fixes for an airport once. You may find that in order to add airports you need to manually "add" salient information to relevant data files held in the Navdata folder. Like I say, I believe this will need to be done manually first and you run the risk of it being "overwritten" the next time the database is updated, i.e. an Airac Cycle. I should imagine that to do this would be "risky" as bad data input would possibly corrupt matters. Like I say, you may find better answers elsewhere. Regards Stuart

The FMC requires start and end airports, not waypoints, and airports with runways less then 10,000ft are ignored even if they are in your navigation database.

I have found a solution by creating defined runways and using them as DEP and ARR. For instance, I created a RW29 in REF PAGE, with coordinates of the airport, altitude, length and magnetic heading. Then I did the same for the arrival airport, naming it RW30. Both airports have the same runway heading (runway 29) but unfortunately, in this particular case, you can't use duplicate names for DEP/ARR, even if the coordinates are different. Then in the INIT PAGE, I used RW29/RW30 as FROM/TO. No need to manually alter the Navdata's database.

Of course, I don't have any approaches procedures or SID/STAR. But it helps find the arrival airport :-)

If this is the FSX PMDG MD11 then get out your Pilot Introduction manual that was downloaded to your FSX folder (yourFSX\PMDG\MD11\operating manual), look on page 0.00.24 and make sure under Navigation Data that the box for "Database includes runways longer than" is checked and then set the value to 6,000' if it is now set to some higher number.

the value was set at 4500 ft.

Well then I guess that the airports you are looking for are not in the Aerosoft database. Anyway it was worth a try to check the setting.

Hi,

could you please give me the ICAO codes of the airports that you are missing. Then I can have a look into the database.

Jan-Paul, I already checked the Navdata files. There are definitely not in the Aerosoft database as they are both military airports (VIBY and VEGK). I know I can manually add them in the files like I always did with Kaitak. And every AIRAC Cycle I will need to enter them again. But as I do not fly those airports regularly, I didn't enter them in the Navdata.

The method I described above is working pretty good, as I could find the airport and finished the approach visually, despite of the low visibility in India as usual.

So if anyone needs to fly from/to airports not in database, and don't want to manually modify the Navdata files, just follow my method above.

Hi,

the Airport Reference Points are in the Database. I have just tried to enter a route between them and it works. The RWYs can be added as you described via the REF Page.

Just make sure there are no restrictions set in the pmdg menu:

I will try again next week. I am away from the FlightSim Computer this week.
