November 22, 201213 yr Hey there, I was wondering if anybody could help me. I've been without a PC since July when my computer died of some sort of horrible motherboard related ailment. It wasn't particularly great but I could run FSX with numerous addons at around 20fps on average. The addons I used included PMDG 737 NGX, REX, MyTraffic etc. Anyhow, I've not been able to afford anything decent since then and using the web on my phone plus a total lack of FSX time has really started to bug me. I'll have around £1000 spend (give or take) in a couple of weeks time and the only thing on my shopping list is a replacement. Initially I looked at pcspecialist.co.uk as my previous computer came from them and they generally seem to receive good reviews and beat the high street in terms of price. However, looking at their gaming PCs I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at and what would really be powerful enough for a more seemless FSX experience this time around. I've also considered the Alienware Aurora R4 at base level, but I'm not sure if it's good value. The base model includes: Intel Core i7-3820 four core 10MB Cache at 3.60GHz, 8GB of DDR3 at 1600MHz, a 1TB 6Gb/s HDD (probably a little bigger than I actually need but it's the cheapest option) and a 1.5GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660. Significantly more powerful than my last machine but is it good enough, particularly in the GFX department? Any advice would be much appreciated! It's just occurred to me that this is in the wrong section. I dunno if a mod can move it to general hardware discussion or something. Apologies!

Yes, it would be best if you look in our Hardware Forum. The guys/gals there have some great suggestions. I'll move this there in case you haven't posted there yet. November 26, 201213 yr The 3 most important things that a PC for FSX needs are: 1. An overclocked i5-K or i7-K ('K' type) Intel CPU with as much Ghz as possible (4.3 - 4.5 Ghz or more) : it will NEVER be enough since FSX eats Ghz for breakfast. 2. An NVIDIA videocard. The minimum is the GTX-560 TI. Higher is better for use with higher antialiasing settings and less loss of framerate in dense clouded weather or stutter in extremely dense scenery. 3. Word Not Allowed's 'Software and Hardware Guide' : http://#####...hardware-guide/ To have a locked constant frame rate of 30 or better, in FSX, with lots of addons, ALL sliders maxed, everything ON (yes: also Light Bloom and all the traffic (aircraft, planes and cars)) in ALL circumstances like heavy clouded stormy weather, at or above very heavy dense scenery with a plane like the PMDG 737 NGX, you need a CPU with a clockspeed of AT LEAST 8 Ghz. So as this won't be available in the first years enjoy your Word Not Allowed tuned smooth flying FSX with it's 20 to 30 frames until we all have something like P3D 2.0 (?) or maybe another new player on the market .... ^_^ With kind regards, Bart S.
