November 22, 201213 yr Pre-Clearance to the USA is the best thing to happen to EINN and EIDW. Shannon especially should make the most of pre clearance and try to lure other airlines to do what British Airways is doing, i.e. using a A319 as an all business class cabin taking off at London city refuel at Shannon, then over the pond to JFK.No waiting at immigration on the other side. If more European airlines did this Shannon would have an extremely bright future. I wonder is it profitable route for British Airways? November 22, 201213 yr Author It is pretty convenient having the pre-clearence. I wonder if it could be used in advertising??? I think what BA did with their A318's is one of the best ideas, going to America with absolutely no fuss or big airport with mad ques etc. It would definitely be great if other airlines did the same There is huge potential for EINN. November 23, 201213 yr So does pre-clearance mean you go through all the American customs checks and procedures etc in Ireland so you can walk straight into America at JFK? If so that is a very cool idea.

If so that is a very cool idea. Indeed that's the idea, makes travelling State-side very handy from the Republic of Ireland, no immigration, you just arrive as a domestic passenger. This is an interesting article. I wonder what the forecast is in the long run for the airport http://www.limerickp...o_redirect=true I think in the long run SNN will only be able to serve the basics like a LHR service, and maybe a couple of other small, seasonal routes. Since the moterway to Limerick has opened, journey times from SNN to DUB are only about 1:50, which for the majority of flights bar the business ones is fine to commute up to DUB. SNNs primary use will still be as an Atlantic alternate aerodrome, but even as things stand, once DUB get's the new parallel runway, there will no longer be a capacity issue there and it will be able to serve as the primary Atlantic Alternate for the east side, as it currently does for many carriers, replacing that need for SNN. I personally see SNN becoming something closer to the likes of NOC, even though for some reason the people of Limerick seem to thing that they have the god-given right to a full international airport, the economics of it aren't working. SNN is losing money hand of fist, once it breaks away from the DAA, it'll have to either change drastically or else shut down. Just my €0.02. Regards, Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.

It could happen so easily for the airport to become desserted due to Dublin and it's huge developements.
