November 29, 201213 yr Hello All, I hope the regulars don't get too sick of seeing these threads. The threads are all so incredibly helpful and I would not be able to do this without all the good information in the forums. I'll try to be brief and to the point. I've spent a lot of time researching and have read Word Not Allowed's guide countless times (I'm not tech savvy and all the damn numbers and letters next a MOBO mean nothing to me) I have a great system now but it doesn't have the guts for FSX and other things I'm wanting to do. Usage: I only use the computer for flight sim. No music, a few photos on the hard drive but nothing too much. I won't be watching movies. I really want a system to run 3 monitors in virtual cockpit, the usual high end airports on the market, and of course PMDG. I've read a lot about the positives and negatives about 3 monitors but it's really a direction I want to try out. Budget: $1500-$1800 (US) (I can go a little higher but don't really want to). Monitors, Windows 7, and a few other misc items are not included in the budget. Here's my list so far Already Purchased (found some good deals) CPU: i7 3770K. . $229. Cooler: Corsair H100. $89. Not Purchased and advice needed on some or all items. PSU - Is it enough? $119.00 Corsair HX750 Modular PSU http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817139010 Case: $89.00 Corsair Carbide 400R Case http://www.newegg.co...N82E16811139008 MOBO: $199 ASUS P8Z77-PRO http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813131819 RAM: $52.99. Something Better? Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) @2133 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820233245 or http://www.newegg.ca...N82E16820147096 GTX680 - $519 (wow they are expensive). Need some help with this as the options don't mean much to me. There are so many EVGA options, I have no idea. http://www.newegg.ca...N82E16814130768 Hard Drive: Another thing I'm having a really hard time with. I really don't use that much space. My current HDD only is using 60 GB out of 500. I'm sure I'll be more scenery's with FSX that are not available. I use the s AS2012, REX, FSDreamteam, etc. I'm thinking 1 SSD and 1 HDD for cost but open to suggestions. $99 OCZ Agility 4 128GB SSD http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820227807 and $129 WD Vrap 300GB http://www.newegg.co...N82E16822136929 CD/ROM: Don't need anything fancy. $19.99 Lite-On CD-DVD Drive http://www.newegg.co...N82E16827106276 Total: $1444 (give or take a few dollars) Okay....I think that is it. Again, I really do value the input and the time for taking to read all of this. So much for "to the point"... Chris B. Trane
November 30, 201213 yr Everything looks good in your selected config. PSU you have selected is good enough so no worries there either. Don't know much about the cabinet but on newegg it certainly is popular. Just make sure if H100 will fit comfortably in that or not. As for the GPU: Is EVGA your only option? If not then you can take a look at this also http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127672 . Regards, Rohit
November 30, 201213 yr Author Rohit, Thanks for the feedback. EVGA isn't my only option, just saw some good recommendations for the brand in other threads. Although I did see some EVGAs in the$469 range but have no idea what the difference is. I think the h100 will fit. I was in a local computer store and they had both items. Cheers Chris B. Trane

November 30, 201213 yr Author Ben, That is great. Thanks so much about the Corsair 400R! I'll looked at the 500R and will probably go with that, as long as idon't have to hook up the LEDs. I like a very simlple basic case. I was also checking this one out: http://www.newegg.co... Performance PC SSD: Because of my low usage of space I was thinking of just doing 1 SSD and bump up to the next size, 256. Would you have a recommendation for another Crucial? RAM: is there much debate about RAM for FSX? I did post on another website and DDR 1600 CL8 was recommended as the higher CL9 didn't offer much benefit. The price difference isn't that much. http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820233186 I was having such a hard time figuring out the EVGA GTX680's, so your link was really helpful. Cheers Chris B. Trane
November 30, 201213 yr For SSD I suggest the Samsung. and get the 256G for FSX. Otherwise your System looks very very good. If you OC it, you could use it for a 3 monitor surround setup. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147189 Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
November 30, 201213 yr Author Thanks Manny. 3 monitor is the plan...still need to figure those out. I'm on a work trip next week and will be buying the components after that. Cheers Chris B. Trane
