PMDG NGX hangup in flight

Featured Replies

Greetings, I cannot seem to find a post among the thousands here for this, so..

While operating the NGX the FS program always stops about every 5 +- minutes to load up. Sometimes for up to 20 secs.

Now I have all the payware A/C out there, it seems, plus all the payware scenery available.

My system can handle all of it with plenty to spare. Not matter how I configure FSX for any kind of performance the PMDG 737 NGX will hang up like I said. This is the only aircraft which does this.

It is loading up data, I know. It can be annoying at times, it continues normally after it does it. Once in a while it will CTD.

I know of two other friends which this also does this too.

This can't be a normal thing. Does this happen to others?

I am not going to list all the things I have done to FSX to help out memory, performance, video, sound. etc... I have tried them all from this and many other forums. I have tweaked and untweaked my FSX cfg.

Any good suggestions accepted.

Thanks

Wayne

What you three do that no one else does? There perhaps your answer lies...

Only joking, but If you take a look at say PCAviator Top 100 you'll see the PMDG 737 NGX more or less sits at the top, all the time. As you say there are no reports, I know people flying round the world or continents like North Amarica and this is not an issue for them. All using a plethora of Addons.

Sit back and think up a new plan of attack, strip back to a default FSX and reinstall the 737, delete the panelstates that it made for your flights. Run some test flights, bring back your full system online gradually.

My friend and I collectivley and separately have searched for the answer to our hang up.

I sat back and stripped the fsx to the barest bones I can, deleted ALL the PMDG NGX files folder and what not reloaded from the git go. I put my computer into the barest mode I can. The thing still hangs up every couple of minutes.

The only thing I can guess is the inner workings of my comfuser is not working totally as it should.

I am at a loss and now will have to just deal with it.

Thanks.

OK "confuser" gave me a laugh. You've got a stange problem there, how do you mean every couple of mins? You mean you only get 2mins into any flight and it does what exactly?

By hang up I mean just that. At about the 5 minute mark all functions on the fsx/b737/computer stop. Nothing for, I time these stops, from 5 - 20 seconds. Then it will start up again. It is loading data and doing its thing. It is doing it in spurts. I am not a new guy to the FS world but this one has me stumped. It has done it since I purchased it and followed thru with all the updates. This is the only PMDG aircraft that does this.

I use it as it is a great performing virtual airplane. One of the best out there.

My friend and both have the same issue, but no one else I know does. Go figure.

??

Thanks

Have you tried opening a PMDG ticklet? Which sometimes.. is better than trying to thrash out ideas, for hours on end?

I believe this is not a "ticketable" offense here. The product works great. It is more of a software to my hardware problem I am sure. I was just hoping that someone had a similar problem and had a workaround for it.

I will keep plugging along and some time I will find the solution.

And yes I don't want to continue for more hours on this.

Thanks all,

Well.

This is the only aircraft which does this.
They might be able to help.

Update on my problem;

did several flights

#1. Started with just the 737 loaded, basic first load no Service packs, turned off all the scenery addons and flew just the FSX. No freezes.

#2 loaded the Hotfix for the 737 and flew the same CFG as above. No freezes.

#3 loaded the scenery addons on and flew. No freezes.

#4 loaded SP1 for PMDG. Loaded scenery except the FSdreamteam and the coatil (sp) and flew. No freezes.

#5 loaded SP1b for PMDG Loaded scenery except the FSdreamteam and the coatil (sp) and flew. No freezes.

I have not gone farther yet with the SP1c. Will try tommorrow and then put on the Dreamteam stuff.

News to me here; Maybe I didn't RTFM. I was digging on the forums and I read that you need to load the SP's one at a time and then operate the aircraft in FSX each time.

I loaded all at once the last time I loaded the 737 and maybe that is the trick.

Maybe this is the trick.

May not be ur hardware. May simply be the software itself giving u tons of issues. Haven't faced any of that before. But I know my FSX crashes during flight especially when I load different views of the aircraft or doing something FSX related. Not sure what the cause is yet...

I used to have an issue where Active Sky would hose my system every time it tried to update the weather. I re-installed it and that fixed the glitch...

I loaded up the last service pack 1c today and let it go. Seems to have taken care of any freezing problems.

I am reluctantly going to activate the coautil and FSDreamteam, along with my Aerosoft airports now. And see if that has any adverse affects.

I am getting an issue like this with NGX too ... in my case, it hangs FSX completely and can't be recovered. The only choice is open task manager and kill FSX with that.

Update: I used the UIAutomationCore.dll solution and so far, my hanging problem has gone away. If you're using Windows7 64 bit, I suggest you look at this. If you're using other operating systems, this doesn't apply to you.

As it turns out, there is an issue with the Windows7 64 bit version of this dll and the NGX. So the solution is to get the Windows Vista version of the dll and put it into your FSX main folder - the one that contains the file fsx.exe. DO NOT get the one that's in the Windows folder - that's the one that causes the problem. but you dont want to remove it either because there are other programs that need it and are working happily. Just put this Vista version in the same folder as fsx.exe and flight sim will use that instead of hunting for it in the Windows folders.

  1. get UIAutomationCore.dll from here.
  2. put it in the same folder as fsx.exe (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X )
  3. restart FSX.

IF this doesnt fix your problem, you need to go looking for other solutions - perhaps a graphics card driver or something, But if it isnt the solution, it wont make things worse or break other things as far as I know, so it's fairly benign.

Cheers
