Before T/O checklist- FO: flaps? Me: flaps 5 green light...actual flaps are 0...shouldn't FO notice that?

Landing checklist- FO gear? Me: down....gear are up...shouldn't FO notice that?

I think It's the same for "eng start levers".(I was doing some emergency's, w some systems off, when I noticed that)

I didn't program the FO to double check absolutely everything.

 

It's assumed you're somewhat competent

But this is how it is supposed to be in a real aircraft. The FO reads the checklist item, checks it silently and waits for the captain to acknowledge the item. If something is not in the correct position, the FO waits for correcting action before going ahead.
