Matrox or NVidia Surround

Featured Replies

I realize this seems like an endless topic, however, just to confirm what opinions might be based on these newer video cards, I'm trying to decide wether or not to go with the Matrox triple2Go or just connect the 3 - 28" LCD's direct to my Gigabyte GTX660 OC GPU using the NVidia Surround utility.

I'm assuming if I go direct, I should do it with 3 HDMI cables.

My CPU (980X-4.2) can handle either method but I'm mostly concerned with getting the best frame rates which up to lately has always been a big problem when connecting 3 monitors directly to a GPU.

Your computer CPU will have no knowledge if you are displaying via Matrox or your surround. the FPS and other performance issue is directly corelated to the resolution you choose. IF the resolution is going to be identical either way, Frame rates would not differ.. But why would you even consider purchasing matrox when your video card can do it better (Resolution wise) for free?

Matrox is irrelevant and a waste of money if you have the 6xx card.

You're right, it sounds logical that 5760 X 1080 should seem the same to the CPU but does the GPU work as hard through one output into a Matrox as it would through 3 outputs separately?

Same thoughts here what is better ? the MATROX ? or connect 2 SLI Cards ? for FPS...

I thought it was already answered. A GTX 6xx card. No SLI...no Matrox.

Okay, I had the same question. For example, this card here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130826&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-NA-_-NA

There's two DVI ports. Which other port would be used for the third monitor/display?

The easiest thing to do is use the HDMI. and get a $6 HDMI->DVI-D Cable and connect it to the DVI-D of your third monitor

Thanks Manny

That's what I suspected (seemed the common sense answer anyhow) but just wasn't certain.

Hello Manny,

I lost all my FPS since I installed 3 new monitors 22" 16:10 with a AMD Eyefinity card, the resolution is now 5040x1050 or something like that. I had 25-30 FPS with my 2 old monitors, 1 for FS and the other for the overhead panel.

The cursor spin and shake in FSX, I don't use SweetFX.

Is it normal that my FPS drop like that ?

More, I can't see any 2D panel for my planes, only VC seems to display correctly.

Idea ?

Thanks

Christian
