December 9, 201213 yr I have just purchased a new headset-Razor Carcharias which is excellent but upon arrival I found that it has 2 3.5 mm phone jacks and not a USB connector. Now,I understand that with the FS2 Crew voice version it is strongly recommended to use a headphone with a USB connection. Not being that 'techy' I am wondering whether or not I can buy some sort of adaptor with a USB connection into which I can plug the phone jacks. I have been following Peter Wright (Froogle) videos in order to learn more about using FS2 Crew and the PMDG 737 and I noticed that he also uses the Razor Carcharias headphone but in addition has the Asus Xonar U3 headphone adapter. Is this the type of kit that I need in order to use my new headphones with FS2 Crew? I would appreciate any advice and thank you in anticipation.
December 9, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hi, I'm sorry, I have no experience with USB adapters. FYI, you don't need a USB headset... they're just a little bit easier to work with that's all. You should be good to go. P.S. Don't forget to sign yours posts with your real name. B. York FS2Crew Web Site / FS2Crew Facebook Page / FS2Crew Discord
December 9, 201213 yr Hi Bryan, Many thanks for your reply. The only reason that I posted the topic was due t the fact that within FS2 Crew the HS button did not recognise my Razor headset and also because it stated within the FS2 Crew manual that a USB headset was 'strongly recommended'. Any further observations would be welcome. Michael
December 9, 201213 yr Michael. Your headset will use the installed soundcard, just select the option In the HS Button that matches that. Works fine for me.
December 9, 201213 yr Further to my last reply I can now let you know the following. I have gone back into FSX fired up FS2 Crew etc and my headphones work and the First Officer hears all my checklists and replies etc. However, when I click on the cfg button and then HS all I see in there is my standard speakers "Realtek High Derfinition Audio".My headphone headset does not show up even though they work with FS2 Crew. Further observations would be really appreciated. Michael Broom
December 9, 201213 yr The "Realtek High Derfinition Audio" option is correct Michael for your headset. USB headsets have there own circuitry and would appear as a seperate device. Sit back and enjoy
December 9, 201213 yr Hi Stephen, Many thanks for your informative reply. Am I right in thinking therefore that a USB headset is not imperative for FS2Crew as what I want to do is to have my headset just for the First Officer interaction and to use the normal FSX sounds(non headphone) for my desktop speakers. I guess therefore that I need to set up my sounds in FSX accordingly for my speakers/subwoofer. Sorry to be a pain but I would like clarification on this point. Many thanks again. Michael Broom
December 9, 201213 yr I don't think your going to be able to split the sound with the current headset Michael, maybe somebody else can correct me on that point. There lies the benefit of the USB version which has it's own circuitry and hence appears as a separate sound device, you would then use the Realtec for FSX and USB for FS2Crew. I'm only using a MIC input to the FSX PC for FS2Crew and a headset on a client for online flying using Squawkbox so I'm not really after FS2Crew sound to the headphones.
December 9, 201213 yr Hi again Stephen, Again many thanks for your reply. Yes,I am fairly certain that I can buy a USB adaptor e.g.Asus Xonar U3 Headphone adaptor which I can plug my Razor headphones into and I think that would do the trick. I should be obliged if someone could confirm that for me. Many thanks in anticipation. Michael Broom
