I suspect the effects on a large airliner are pretty subtle.

As for controlling the camera, I use TrackIR for that.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth

I'm sticking with ezdok for all the reasons already stated. Setting up realistic camera shake is really not hard, I only messed with global settings and head movement generators, now its perfect for me.

As for weather I found that as2012 is now just as good or better than opus. Great cloud cover and winds turbulence. Loaded up opus the other day it was pelting down, though there wasn't a cloud in sight so loaded as2012. As2012 was more less the same but with more cloud that eventually turned overcast as stated in report.

Now I use both. If one seems not too accurate I try the other.

You nailed it Hook. I dialed up those physics related sliders and got them functioning detectably now, i.e. the runway seams and other. I'll keep playing around w/ it. I'm also a little interested in TrackIR as another add on to increase the sheer fun of this hobby which I've been at steadily since about 1990! OMG!

I get considerable camera movement in the default DC-3 on the ground. I don't remember if I made any changes to the Accu-Feel profile for that plane aside from lowering the cabin integrity considerably. What can I say, it's an old airplane. :)

As for TrackIR, while some people don't care for it, I'd be hard pressed to decide to give up my pedals or my TrackIR5 if I had to get rid of one. While pedals give me more accurate control, TrackIR gives me a better overall experience. Accu-Feel and TrackIR co-exist without changes to either, not something that can be said for some other camera systems.

If you fly nothing but the NGX, for example, you may find TrackIR to be little more than eye candy. I can't say for sure as I've never flown that aircraft. But in GA flying and in the DC-3 it makes a world of difference. I don't use 2D panels, only the virtual cockpit. I've seen videos of the NGX cockpit from people using TrackIR and it does look pretty good overall. It's gotten to the point for me that I see a video where someone's not using TrackIR and it looks unnatural.

I want to say Thank You to all for your help on this. Accu-Feel, once configured for the heavier planes I use, is exactly what I was hoping to find! It has gotten rid of the 'sterile' perfect rolling that existed previously and has therefore added that extra sense of realism. I may look into TrackIR as well once I get a machine that can support more head movement and not be stressed (video smoothness wise) from frequently moving the field of view. My system's not bad in this regard but hopefully by mid next year I'll be upgrading to Haswell if it pans out, or whatever the best choice is by then.

Cheers,

I expected performance problems from this on my machine, but did not experience them. I think the difference is, when you use the hat switch to move your view, you expect it to be perfectly smooth and any frame rate problems really stand out because of the fixed speed at which the view moves. But with TrackIR, you aren't moving your head the same way. I want to see something off my left wing I turn my head quickly and focus there. If there is a fps drop during the move, I don't notice it. I would certainly notice stutters if they happened, but I'm not getting any. I do get some tearing occasionally, but it's not bothersome. I suspect if I got rid of the tearing, I'd get stutters instead.

I know there has to be some kind of performance hit, but due to the way TrackIR is used I just don't see it. Funny, I hadn't thought about this possible problem since before I got TrackIR.

What kind of a machine are you on? Right now, I'm a bit on the edge of needing more performance since heavier clouds w/ winter time and I'm typically in FTX scenery w/ addon airports more and more. The QW757 is fairly easy on frames but the scenery & airports still can make perf get a little clunky on occasion.

This will be my last PowerSpec system. I've had 3 or 4 of them in the past and they've always been good, except for the power supply dying after one year on each of them. I preemptively upgraded that before I left the store. No idea what they were thinking when they put the system on a 64 gig SSD, that's just not big enough. I started with 12 gig free, down to 7 now with just FSX installed and have to jump through hoops to keep it clean.

I have the same problem, probably caused by the ATI video card.

I can usually get 30 fps without stutters from Word Not Allowed's tweaks, extremely dense autogen causes a frame rate drop but TrackIR doesn't seem to make it any worse, which is what I was originally expecting. A couple of complex aircraft might drop the frames but not below 20. Heavy cloud cover will drop the frames into the teens, but again, TrackIR handles it just fine. I didn't experience the problems I expected to have.
