For all of you interested in who this supposed Eric Lunston let's read another post of his on this subject, and of course he appears OBJECTIVE in this post but what about the others? ***http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=121&topic_id=199665&mode=full"This post directed to Randy Smith:Randy, nothing personal but we must objectively compare the new Ariane 737 to that of PMDG. While the PMDG 737 is good, it is not a complete sim for there is no Inertial Navigation/Reference System modeled at all. It is VERY unrealistic not to have this part of a modern avionics suite modeled. Futhermore it does not appear at this time that PMDG will ever update their 737 with a functional IRS. This is a serious shortcoming for a sim with PMDG's pricetag. In addition, PMDG customers are forced to pay for a product TWICE to gain both full functionality and serious bug fixes for their base product 737. If one does not spend an additonal $30.00 for the PMDG 'upgrade/patch' in addition to the base price of $40.00, the EHSI will display a rather serious lateral track error. In essence customers have to pay for a bug fix in this regard. That's just plain cheesy.I for one am willing to give Ariane a chance, all rhetoric aside. Competition is good for the add-on marketplace and serves the best interests of simmming consumers.Calling the Ariane 737 a toy compared to PMDG is irresponsible as I will assume you have never even purchased or used the Ariane product have you? I am very intersted in their product because of PMDG's aforementioned shortcomings.Eric Notice here he ACCUSES me of not having purchased the Ariane 737 yet according this this thread we are in he had not purchased it either! Here is another"Mike,Exactly my point!!!! PMDG 'groupies' like to quicky discount the importance of IRS integration that in reality drives the ADI, rate of climb indicator, groundspeed readout, wind direction and speed readout, yaw damper, in addition to position information. I'm glad to see real airline pilots such as yourself point this out to the woefully uninformed amongst us.A realistic airline sim is simply not complete without IRS functionality; other sim developers have accomplished this but PMDG continues to remain behind the pack.Wilco's 767 Pilot in Command add-on for FS2000/FS2002 modeled all integrated functions of a modern IRS system, including failure capability. It's amazing to contrast an 'old' sim like 767PIC to new ones like PMDG. Sometimes a new product can take one step forward and two steps back.Eric" I think we can all agree that this is a "Ariane" supporter or if not PETER himself! And if all that is not a pile of miss-information he even takes a shot at Active Sky!"Hi Activesky Guys,First I will preface this post by saying that you are really a friendly and helpful group of folks and I sincerely believe you do your best to develope a good, feature rich weather add-on product like AS2004.Honestly though, after having used Flight Simulator 2004's default online weather engine with the lastest FSUIPC's wind smoothing function, that FS2004's own online weather is really a much better experience than Activesky 2004. Nothing personal!Activesky 2004 was a great effort I think but it consistantly falls short in a lot of areas. The winds aloft have never worked right with Activesky unless they are forced and a flight plan route is used. This is just too unrealistic for me and too much of a compromise for real-world flight planning. I know that Activesky is working with the new FSUPIC to achieve winds aloft smoothing without the bugs (abrupt shifts) that are in the latest MR2 beta but I have never seen a version of Activesky do what it is advertised. It's always, "we are going to fix it in the next version and it will be perfect, you'll love it!!!"And yet the bugs persist, version after version, patch after patch. The destination winds are buggy and unreliable too, "we are going to fix it in the next version and it will be perfect, you'll love it!!!", but I'm not too optimistic.FS2004's own default online weather works perfectly now (only with the registered version of FSUPIC) and I love it. I don't have to wait for anybody's operation or vacations plans, don't have to report the latest bug list and try the latest fixes, frankly it just works and works excellentFSUIPC accomplished with FS2004's default weather what Activesky 2004 always promised but could never really realize. Activesky was always gimmicky, gee whiz, on the brink of a weather miracle, ect, but never could quite pull it off.I hope I don't offend anyone because I think that you guys are really nice people but I had to say how I feel as a paying customer. I hope Activesky can have a future, maybe with a new development strategy based on more sound programming results. Thanks for listening....Eric Is this a person ANYONE in the flight sim community wishes to listen to concerning anything??? I THINK NOT! For an honest opinion of PMDG's plane I submit a REAL 737 NG pilot known to all of Avsim, Mr. Brad Marsh, what does a real pilot have to say? ***http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=136&topic_id=59789&mesg_id=59789&page=2"Dear All,May I humbly suggest that before claiming there is a bug or an error in the sim that you spend just a few moments doing a couple of searches of this forum to ensure the issue you have has not already been addressed. The developers, the guys that write the tutorials and many of the highly informed users of PMDG sims spend a lot of time answering questions that have already been answered, sometimes on numerous occassions. There are excellent tutorials and manuals available as well. As one of the guys who answers a few questions I ask that you do this so that we might all better use our time to help all simmers. I know it is often easier to just start a new thread with your particular problem but it will help both you and everyone else to get the best out of this wonderful sim and the resource that AVSIM so kindly provide if you simply do a little research first. The archive part of this forum is an invaluable aid.I get a great deal of personal satisfaction from sharing my passion for flying with people not quite as lucky as I. My aim is to help them get as close as possible to flying the real aeroplane through this sim and it still amazes me at the depth of the technical and operational knowledge of the people who frequent this forum. The aim of this post is to get the best out this sim and forum experience for everyone. As always, if you have a question then all you have to do is askRegards,Brad Marsh" PMDG737-800 is the ultimate civvy sim. Good enough to use to train for real world 737NG operations. I think that settles the real world pilot opinion!Best Wishes,
Randy J. Smith

P M D G's 747-400

coming to a runway near you
Caution! I have my own suspicions about gentelmen Eric Lunston and Svein Hansen. They both come from Scandinavia, come across as seasoned simmers yet oddly you won't find their names on fsnordic.net. And Fsnordic is the premier flight sim site in that part of the world and pretty much everyone over there signs their full names.Michael J.

Randy...You are every bit as much a PMDG "a really excited user" as any supporter of any product I've seen here. It's this "my dog is better than your dog" business that is making the credibility of both camps suspect. Right now, all I can say is I care for some fans of the PMDG product a lot less than the Ariane supporters..... Naive of me to ask--can't everyone just get along?-John

I really wish Ariane would open it's own forum site. Considering that they won't even provide a copy of their product to a legitimate reviewer it's just crazy the amount of space being wasted here discussing it. This should be their problem and their bandwidth.David

Agreed.

See the difference John? Let me tell you. I do not EVER post a PMDG thread on this forum. When some guy who is accusing me of a bias and is himself bias then I will correct this with facts. It's not the PMDG supporters who make threads comparing Ariane with PMDG! It's that these guys who do not even know how a 737 NG is suppose to perform like then make such dishonest mean spirited comparisons trying only to draw attention to the Ariane product. Sure I support PMDG, I even have some of my work on the original aircraft (which was donated by the way) and have worked over a year helping work out the kinks. Even if you do not like that fact alone there is not one of these unknown Arianes supporters who have ever refuted the facts of my posts, no insted they take personal shots making the well known straw man argument.
