Boeing 727 Handling and Behaviour Question

Thank you Peter again. The thing with the light indeed made me believe it wouldn't work for me. But now it works (and it fills the strange empty places beside the weather radar and at the overhead panel in the 727) and I even think of installing the INS to my DC-6. Were real DC-6s equipped with such a system in their later life?

I could even try it in the Tu-134...

Seems that I have learned the 727 basics faster that I initially thought. It's a real outstanding plane. Together with a good scenery...

Best regards,

Harald

Hi,

sorry for bringing this old thread up.

When surfing around at simmarket, I found this B727 soundpack:

http://secure.simmarket.com/turbine-sound-studios-boeing-727-jt8d-soundpack.phtml

Now I wonder if the sound of the DF 727 which I own is so bad that it needs to replaced?

And I wonder further if this add-on is adequate for the several JT8D versions modelled within the DF package?

Thanks for clarifying this in advance

Regards, Harald

Hi Harald,
I'm a huge fan of Turbine Sound Studios. I use their sound packs on all my add on airliners. However, I'm still not sure about trying their 727 sound pack yet because of my experience with their MD-80 sound pack for FSX.

If you've never tried TSS sound before, you will hear a huge difference and the quality shows on all their products.
One thing about TSS is that the engine sound you hear in the cockpit is different. It sounds more like from the passenger's perspective. Many people have complained about this.
I personally like it on 99% of the TSS sounds I have. It sounds a lot more powerful in the VC and gets the adrenaline pumping. Someone looking for 100% authenticity won't like it. It doesn't sound fake or anything. TSS record from the actual engines.

The exterior sound are amazing too. You can check out the different sound packs on youtube.

Now, back to the issue with their MD-80 sound pack I mentioned above..... You can clearly hear the engines in the VC. Flying a T-tail with rear engines and being able to hear them that loud in the VC is a bit of a turn off. Out of all the TSS sounds I own, this is the only one I'm not 100% satisfied with.
I have cockpit DVD of MD-80 and it's very quiet in the cockpit.

I also own a cockpit DVD of the Iran Air 727 and I find the DF 727 VC sound to be very accurate compared to what was captured on the video...  You might find this interesting since you dig the 727...

I'm also enjoying the DF 727 A LOT. So much manual work in the cockpit when flying old school. I love it.

Hi Maurice,

very much appreciating your post. Just one thing, clicking the video I got the message "This video is not available in your country..."

Your post encourages me to stay with the original DF sounds. When I heard the TSS sounds on their promotional video at simmarket, my first impression was: Engine sounds are much more to hear in the cockpit than before. And as I sit in the cockpit most of the time, the impression of sound when sitting there is more important for me than a ultrarealistic outside sound.

I have no TSS soundset so far as I came to the 727 from flying the DC-6 for years, so I know 99% of the aircraft types TSS has made soundsets for only from AI (they are simply too new). I once considered buying their DC-3 soundset, but when looking at the promo video, I found the propeller sound too loud compared with the piston engine sound.

Yes, the DF 727 is an outstanding plane, regarding visuals, system depth and overall quality. One thing I can't rate is the workload in the cockpit compared with modern airliners; as I explained, I come from the DC-6 and I think that the 727 (and occassionally the Tu-134) will stay the most modern plane I regularly fly. However, this may change with the SSJ-100... So I haven't problems with the workload, but rather with the speed all happens with in the 727 ...

Best regards!

Too bad about the video.  I've gotten that a few times.  I thought it would be interesting sharing it because the audio portion of the video was recorded nicely.  It's very rare to find 727 cockpit vids with good audio.

You noticed the loud engines in the cockpit too, eh?  I still don't know why they did that with the MD-80 and 727.  The other ones I have are definitely louder but not unrealistic loud like their rear engine t-tails.

LIke you, I'm also able to ignore unrealistic outside sound.  It's been a looong time since I've seen a 727 in action, but the DF external sound is OK.

I'm also looking forward to the SSJ100 once the VC is complete.  It sure is a pretty looking plane.

I keep forgetting you're not an airliner guy lol.  Your avatar should make that loud and clear for me everytime, so I'll remember that from now on  .

Yes, the loud inside sound was clearly to hear even in the promotion video. I can only assume that they recorded it with doors or cockpit windows open (it sounded a little bit like that).

Regarding outside sounds, I need a quite realistic sound for propliner startup, the rest doesn't mind me that much.

Have fun!
