December 30, 201213 yr I have been trying to eliminate the last few "shimmers" in my FSX / DX10 implementation. I have tried most of the options and additions recommended and am pretty happy with the result. The only shimmer I see is in the nine (?) tiles around the aircraft. When the AC is above 10,000' I can see almost no shimmer. When the AC is on the runway there is a lot of shimmer visible. I have tried every recommended and many other combinations using nVidia Inspector and modifications to fsx.cfg - no change that I can find stops the shimmer in the tiles immediately around the aircraft. No other shimmer appears anywhere else. I set Scenery Complexity and Autogen Density to NONE but that did not eliminate the shimmer. I set Global Texture Resolution to NONE but that did not eliminate the shimmer. I then unchecked the Land Detail Textures box and ALL shimmer was gone. The setting for Water Effects did not change the the fact that turning Land Detail Textures on/off turned shimmer on/off What does Land Detail Texture do? I can't really see any change in the scenery when clicking or unclicking the box The top picture is in DX10 with Land Detail Texture ON and the other is with it OFF nVidia 8800GTS (640MB) and many different drivers were tested including the latest beta Edited December 31, 201213 yr by firehawk44 Images removed. December 30, 201213 yr Yikes! That looks more like an aniso settings problem then an AA problem. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... December 31, 201213 yr Detail textures are special textures engineered to give textures higher detail with a lower performance cost. That's what Land Detail Textures does, but seeing from your screenshot, it's not supposed to cause that much shimmering. When flying at a higher altitude, they can barely be seen. The fault lies elsewhere.
