3 Decimal Place VHF Radios?

Featured Replies

I was watching the Air Canada A319 ETOPS video earlier, and at one point the check pilot stated that in Europe aircraft have to have VHF radios with 3 decimal places, unlike in North America, where airlines usually operate with 2 decimal place VHF's. The NGX has a standard 2 decimal place VHF radios, but is there an option to switch them for 3 decimal place VHF's, like how you can switch the PFD and ND to the classic six pack? And if not, could it be a possible implementation for SP2?

FSX Doesn't support more than 2 decimal places in radio frequencies, so it would be unlikely I'd imagine.

That's not strictly accurate. FS does support 3 decimal com frequencies, if the 100ths digit is displayed. 25 Khz channel spacing is supported, so if you see 122.77 in the display, the actual frequency is 122.775...

It is true however that VHF nav frequencies are limited to 2 decimals because nav channels have 50 Khz spacing (to prevent interference with one another).

Not true anymore. In Europe the spacing is now 8.33kHz for IFR (and probably VFR sonner or later too) at some places.

The question of the op was if the NGX will support this with an upcoming service pack.

Yes, I'm aware of the new European spacing, but the answer(s) remain the same. Since the simulator does not support anything other than 50 kHz channel spacing, what would be the point?

Sorry, I just wanted to make sure ;) and you are totally right, the new spacing doesn't make sense itself in FSX.

IVAO and other online networks are the only place where you actually could need that small spacing, however Ivap (I don't know if the VATSIM clients do so too) will bring you on the right frequency when tuned to the nearest 50kHz.

Best regards and a happy new year!
