December 31, 201213 yr I am very confused about the AP on the RV7. I have the ALT mode set to hold my current altitude. But then halfway through the flight, it seems that the ALT mode is not holding my altitude anymore. The VS does not work either. It works fine in the beginning of the flight then it seems it just dies. Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong or any tips. Thanks John
January 1, 201313 yr I've had some issues in the past. Starting the default C172 first, then switching to the RV7 helped. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

January 1, 201313 yr I've been flying the RV alot, Combined with accu-feel it is my favorite GA plane. I have had this issue once in a while. The solution for me was just to 'reload' the aircraft, even during flight. Go to aircraft menu, select the aircraft again. You will have to turn on the GNS530 again but the autopilot hold should work. I am not sure exactly what causes it but I just went on two 5+hr x-country flights and never lost altitude hold. I have been starting my flights with Maarten Bolen's FSX launcher, not sure if that makes a difference or not. From what I know is that the RV-7's alt hold is programed outside of the default alt hold so it will behave more realistically. The tradeoff is that ive noticed when flying in FPS heavy regions such as FTX Seattle with lots of weather and AI going on, it has a hard time changing vert speed. Like Ryan said, check the baytower forums, or email Developer, Danny. Cheers TJ "The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams Tejon 'TJ' Stanley

Am I suppose to do anything with the vnav window on the gns 530? I set it to 2600 ft msl... I am not sure that really does anything. And am I suppose to be trimming the plane out with alt hold on? It seems that I cannot register for bay tower forums. Do u happen to have Danny's email? Thanks
January 1, 201313 yr It won't do anything with the VNAV on the GNS530W. It only has a VS function and ALT function. And then you've got HDG or TRACK (LNAV/GPS). The A/P will trim when ALT hold is engaged. If you go over a certain speed the A/P will disconnect. If you manhandle the controls it will disconnect. This stuff is in the manual btw: ...Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Vans_RV7\_documents | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

I seems that the ALT mode does not keep you at a certain altitude. I wish there was a tutorial out there, to see if I am doing something wrong!

January 2, 201313 yr Author It won't hold one on the gns530 but it will hold altitude if you click it twice I click the ALT button till it says 0. It holds for awhile but then it just dies. And what do you mean when you say it won't hold one on the gns530?
January 2, 201313 yr The only thing autopilot does with the GNS(default version) is to track GPS course when GPS/VLOC button is pressed. Other than that, the GNS has nothing to do with autopilot altitude control. Autopilot alt 'hold' is simply vertical speed set to 0. My autopilot settings in the config manager are all set to default. I did change servo type to 'Trim' so it might be a little smoother. Cheers TJ "The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams Tejon 'TJ' Stanley

I emailed Danny asking him if I could get a login at BayTower Forums a couple days ago. I love this plane but the AP is just making me lose interest in flying it. (especially on the long XC's)
January 3, 201313 yr I did a flight the other day with the RV-7. Engaged the autopilot after takeoff with a climb of 1200fpm. At fl120 hit the alt button to Alt Hold. I then let her cruise for 2 hours and she never lost altitude. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the aircraft? Chris Strobel KSNA
