January 1, 201313 yr Again we're in Hawaii looking for a view of the ocean. Seems like that would be pretty easy to find just about anywhere in the islands, but this one is in a specific place. Enjoy. Thank you. Rick $Silver Donor EAA 1317610 I7-7700K @ 4.5ghz, MSI Z270 Gaming MB, 32gb 3200, Geforce RTX2080 Super O/C, 28" Samsung 4k Monitor, Various SSD, HD, and peripherals
January 2, 201313 yr Interesting scoring on this one. After sunset it finally popped up for me. Thanks for the challenge!
January 2, 201313 yr Just followed the highway. Very pretty flying low in the Icon (for a change). - Peter C http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bob_and_Ray_Show
January 2, 201313 yr I too flew IFR (followed the road). The Mamalahoa Highway is on the map, so it wasn't difficult. And there is Ocean View in sight, and on the map. A nice shot of the Cub against the lava flow. The Aerocache is right where expected. May as well land on the highway and take in the ocean view (and hope the highway patrol doesn't come around while I am there!) Beautiful ocean view! Great place to live. Best regards. January 2, 201313 yr Like Rick, I was a little confused going in to get the AC. Once I flew it and got to the area I muttered to myself "dumb..my!" If my brain had not been dulled by college football I would have thought HOV, which is a community along the SW portion of The Big Island. Just guessing here, based upon reading stuff around the web, but it looks like HOV was someone's plan to make lots and lots of $$$ selling a little slice of Hawai'i. If you look at HOV in Google Earth you will see a large section of roads set up above the main highway. Situated within the grid of roads are all these lots for sale where people can come in and build a home. Couple of problems though. First, this portion of TBI doesn't have "county water", so water is done via catchment systems. That's OK, because the area gets a fair amount of rain. The systems for water have purification and piping to the house. Normally would work OK. But.... there's that nasty volcano that's been erupting for a good while and doing so it's spitting out toxic gases. With a prevailing NE wind it blows down and around the mountain. When it rains it picks up the toxic elements from the volcano clouds. Not a workable situation, unless people want to pay to have water trucked into the house and that isn't cheap. So HOV sits there, mostly empty. Dreams of great profit washed away by the whims of the volcano...
