Help about FSX scenery texture problems

Featured Replies

I have a big texture problem that I can't seem to fix. The settings are on ultra high. I tried DirectX 10 on and off. I used ORBX England which looked very bad then I uninstalled it and I tried GEX Europe and no luck. I have also VFR Germany and Switzerland Pro X sceneries which looks better but they are not looking good compared to screenshots. I made the settings according to the manuals of the addons. The game and all the addons are installed into a usb 3.0 external HDD. Computer specs are i7 3.3 Ghz, 8gb DDR3 ram and 512MB GeForce 650m graphics. Can you give an advice about how to fix the problem? You can see what I mean in the screens. FSX with Acceleration.

Heavens, something is definitely amiss there! Have you tried taking out every non-vanilla entry in your sceneries config, and then manually adding them back in one by one? that may be worth a try... From your description it sounds like you have installed and uninstalled a number of add ons.. there could be a possibility of corruption. When removing GEX did you restore fsx's backup (I believe it creates a backup for you when you install it..)

The second theory, is that your machine isn't up to task, and your settings are too high. What (if any) changes have you made to fsx.cfg? In fact, is there any chance you could post the contents of your FSX.cfg here for us to have a look at?

Load FSX and the scenery on to your computer,i think using FSX from a usb is the problem,It cant use load the drivers it needs.

In your second or third sentence you state that your settings are on ultra-high. How about backing things off a notch (or three) and see what happens. That may be your only problem--settings way too high.

Thanks for the replies. It was working fine until I noticed textures are looking bad in England after I installed OrbX. Then I removed it but then the whole game textures started to look like that. I restored my GEX textures to normal FSX but no change. Now I uninstalled FSX and I will reinstall it again. I deleted all the fsx files in Windows. The problem is not related to USB because the problems started after some addon. Do I need to install addon sceneries again because VFR sceneries takes lots of time. Can I just add them from the settings of the game?

I just went through a reinstall and the first thing I installed was GEX as it replaces all of the default US textures and they are optimized for better performance. It took me less than 5 seconds to start up. Take your time reinstalling and test each addon fully before proceeding further. My MegaScenery I left on another harddrive and did not reinstall. I just let the Scenery Library know where it was located. Orbx/FTX sceneries you will have to reinstall. A partial of my FSX.cfg is located here - http://forum.avsim.net/topic/395827-fsxcfg/ (post #3) and it provides me excellent graphics and FPS. With all of my MegaScenery's, some Orbx/FTX sceneries, FSDT airports, AS2012, several addon commercial aircraft like PMDG, etc., I'm loading FSX in less than 30 seconds. I still have to install my AI Traffic program (MTX) but going to wait on that until the last. Watch your layering in the Scenery Library and watch your FSX and display driver settings. Too high and you will see anomalies and/or CTD's.

Best regards,

Jim

After uninstalling and reinstalling FSX I fixed the problem for now. I think its OrbX England which corrupts. I took a screenshot over VFR Germany with REX clouds. They still look kinda not that good to me. Do I expect to much from FSX or is it just normal? Thanks

I heard somewhere that all you need to do is run FTX Central and return to default. Run FSX, close, then run FTX Central again and select England. Your terrain.cfg might have gotten out of whack.

Jim.

I tried that but it corrupted my FSX so I had to install it again. I read that there are problems like that for GEX and ORBX users so they are making a SP1 for it but I don't think that I will use it again after all that time I spent.
