January 5, 201313 yr Commercial Member Happy new year all, A quick one if I may, One of the perks of working with Microsoft is that they send me free gear . Through the post yesterday comes a new Acer Iconia W510. I am aware that it is 'possible' to use as an fmc. But any ideas how? Thanks gents, Alex Alex Ridge Join Fswakevortex here! January 5, 201313 yr The best way is to get one of those 'remote control' apps that lets you control your computer from the tablet. Or an app that extends the screen of the PC over to the tablet and then drag the FMC over. There was another discussion going on about this somewhere else on the forum, have you checked there? January 5, 201313 yr As you have full win8 and not the RT version on your Acer, you should probably not look for an app, but look if it is possible to move a second FSX window to another PC, meaning that you undock the NGX FMC as separate window and move it to your tablet I have no clue if it works, but here is a thread which says it would probably: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/272063-gps-display/ But I doubt if this would really work ... January 6, 201313 yr I am doubtful that it will work with windows 8 due to the newness of the OS, but i've heard it can work with xp and 7. I personally don't like the layout and configuration of windows 8, it almoust has a windows 3.1 feel about it (from what i can tell anyway). May aswell be living back in 1993.
January 6, 201313 yr Beside any rumours you spread because of your personal denial of WIN8: how many programs do you know which run under Win7 do NOT run under WIN8?? January 6, 201313 yr I can't name any, which is why I said it was personal opinion - I don't speak for everyone and I certainly do not spread rumours. I personally have not tried windows 8 on any device be it a tab or a traditional desktop / laptop. I am only going off what I have either seen on adverts or have seen on the internet with other people making reviews or showing off the desktop - my opinion is that of my own only. The visuals and ergonomics of it is the prime reason for me not wanting to try it. In my personal opinion, Microsoft should have stook to what they know, but capitalism and 'progression' will always play a part in every multi-national when they feel they have to 'adapt' to a 'changing' audience and sometimes (if not alot of times) this results in an epic fail - where companies fall and are then replaced. I suppose this is just the nature of business on that scale. Most probably, as I've just got this licenced version of windows 7, I doubt I will be trying it any time soon if at all. XP lasted me for 7 years which I felt was long enough.
January 7, 201313 yr Maybe PMDg could release an app for Android and Apple? It's certainly possible to make your mobile device or tablet communicate to games via WiFi. For example; iRacing, a great racing simulator. Some company has released an app called DashMeterPro and it shows all the information of the sim on your phone, and transforms it into a dashboard. It shows your gear, RPM, speed, fuel, best laptime, delta best, G-force meter and it shows where the other cars are on track relative to you. All this information gets sent via WiFi without any delay at all. All you gotta do it modify a simple .ini file and put in the port number you set on your phone for that app, and put in your PC's IP address on your phone. Done this, and it all works perfectly fine without any FPS hit whatsoever. So in other words, this should be possible with FSX too, and not even in the way like iDisplay works so you get a second screen, but in a way so that FSX sends all the FMC data via WiFi to your device, and the particular app transforms into a corresponding FMC.
