January 13, 201313 yr Hi Gerald, I have tried all of your suggestions to no avail.I just cannot get a response from the copilot despite MCE showing that he is present. No a couple of tries he butted in saying some unconnected remark. I have tried to e mail the rcv3 dat file to [email protected] and the mail gets bounced back.Have you another address? I am getting very frustrated with MCE at present! Norman Bowman

That's definitely the correct e-mail address. Maybe it bounced back because the attachment was deemed unsafe. Suggest you send a zip file instead. I don't think it's necessary though because I had a chance to read your latest post before Avsim reverted to Wednesday 's backup. In short, since you are unable to talk to FO while the UI is displaying "Copilot listening on ...whatever_aircraft", this suggest the main issue is with speech input (not accent related). Does your headset mike have a hardware mute (a switch that cuts off the mike)? If using a non-USB headset, have you plugged the mike (usually pink connector) to the correct sound card jack at the back of the PC (normally pink connector). You are advised to run the Windows mike calibration tool to see if it's getting any input. Does your headset work with Skype? Try using the Windows sound recorder tool to see if it works. Perhaps you have more than one audio device and MCE is picking up the wrong input. In that case run our assign sound device tool Click Start->All Programs->Multi Crew Experience->Tools->Assign sound device. When the window appears, select the correct input and output from the listed devices then click OK and let the wizard adjust things automatically for you, Go to the <About> tab of the user interface and check which input and output MCE is using. Suggest you send a screenshot of the <About> tab to support. If you get in touch, we will get you sorted the same day. Thanks Gerald R https://www.multicrewxp.com
March 21, 201313 yr I think the problem I have is related to this. Even though MCE has a audio selection screen on setup for input and output, MCE will not function unless the output device is set as the windows default. The about screen does properly show the proper device, but there is no voice recognition if you have a different device set as default in Windows. In my case Soundblaster (What you hear) When it is set as default all is ok. This normally isn't a problem, but it prevents me from using MCE while recording videos with my chosen video capture program (For performance) GameCam, which only records from one audio source. Since it has to be "What you hear" to record FSX sounds, (I used FRAPS (which does support recording 2 audio sources but is terrible in performance or HD economy)for the videos I made for you!) if I set the Windows default device to my Microphone (MS LifeChat3000) then MCE works perfectly but then my video only picks up the audio from my mike. One thing I noticed, which may be the problem is the Audio 1n and audio out lines in the MCE.ini file is blank, although as I said the application shows correctly! Here's a screenshot of the about page in mce Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d

Here's a screenshot of the about page in mce When "AudioIn" and "AudioOut" entries are empty in mce.ini, the program will use whatever default audio is selected in Windows panel. Irrespective of what's selected in Windows panel, MCE can direct sound out and pick-up input from the devices you specify. You need to use the "Assign sound device" tool Click Start->All Programs->Multi Crew Experience->Tools->Assign sound device Select the output where you want to hear FO Select the relevant input you want to use. Click OK, and let the wizard adjust things automatically for you. Assuming you switched devices, as soon as you click OK, the wizard will automatically open the Windows recognition panel and tell SAPI which mike to use. Do not interfere with that process, I mean while the automatic selection is in progress. mce.ini will then be edited to remember your selection. Gerald R https://www.multicrewxp.com

As I stated in my post, that was exactly what I did, evidenced by my screenshot showing the Livechat devices for both input and output. (Assigned with MCE "Assign sound device tool" My windows default is to use Sound Blaster. When set that way, MCE does not respond to voice recognition. Only when I also set Windows default to LiveChat, does MCE respond properly. I think I was referring to the wrong mce.ini file when I said the field was blank (The one in the Program Files folder) I found the one in the appdata folder which does have the fields populated, however I think there may be a format error, that may be causing the problem. Each entry starts with a "(" but desn't have a ")" AudioIn=Microphone (Microsoft LifeChat AudioOut=Speakers (Microsoft LifeChat LX What should the format look like? Thank You! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d

MCE reads the sound device information using the Windows Multimedia API. The reported device name is a 32 character long string, that’s why sometimes you see text appear as incomplete. However I think you've got a point. Not sure it's the issue, but it appears there are 2 blank characters appended to the line AudioIn=Microphone (Microsoft LifeChat Try deleting the 2 space characters that follow the “LifeChat word”, save the file and see if MCE picks-up the correct input when default device is different in Windows panel. Thanks for reporting this Tom. Gerald R https://www.multicrewxp.com
