January 15, 201313 yr Sorry if the answer to this has already been posted - I checked the first several pages of posts, and a search came up empty. Is anyone running XPX 64-bit in a 3-monitor widescreen configuration? How about with nVidia 3D surround? Thanks for any input!
January 15, 201313 yr How about with nVidia 3D surround? Hi, NV 3D surround only works for some games, and not on OpenGL, which X-Plane uses.
January 15, 201313 yr Ok, so how do you get 3 monitors with xpx? Do you need triplehead2go, or is there another solution? My answer was specifically about 3D surround. This one, I'm sure it doesn't. I search a bit, but it's hard to find the requirements for NV 2D surround on the internet.
January 15, 201313 yr Go to this page (link below) and at the bottom there is a link "For a complete list of system requirements for NVIDIA Surround Technology, click here.". This will tell you what is required per your Nvidia card for 2 or 3d. Actually the "click here" link works, just use it. If I remember well, you run X-Plane on 3 screens, do you happen to use Nvidia 2d surround ?
January 15, 201313 yr And nowhere does Nvidia say if it supports OpenGL games. If I remember well, you run X-Plane on 3 screens, do you happen to use Nvidia 2d surround ? Yes, it runs very well performance wise at 3840 x 1024, 3 x 19" monitors. I use the DVI ports on my monitors. On my GTX 670 I'm using 2 DVI connectors and a DVI to DisplayPort adapter, not the HDMI, although you could. I bought a $10 Startechcom DVI to Displayport adapter and it works great. January 15, 201313 yr When you say 3D surround, you're actually talking about two different nVidia technologies working together. nVidia has a 3D implementation that works with the distance data in DirectX games to generate a 3D field and broadcasts that to compatible nVidia 3D monitors. nVidia Surround is the process by which the video card takes a single window that is 3072x768 pixels and divides that up to go on 3 1024x768 monitors the way the Triplehead2Go does. Combine the 2 and you have the 3D Surround (3x screens with one game across all 3 in 3D). Without the 3D, it's just surround gaming. Aaron
January 15, 201313 yr Nvidia Quadro Pro cards work in Surround 3d with OpenGL titles. It says the application has to be "Quad Buffered OpenGL", don't know it that inludes Xplane or not. http://www.nvidia.ca...ics_boards.html Are they ever expensive. http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro_fx_5600_4600.html Gigabyte z590 UD - i5 11600k 4.9 GHz - 64gb 3600 MHz ram - RTX 3070 ti - multiple ssd - 34" 3440x1440 100 Hz Curved - Saitek Yoke Pedals Throttle Quadrant x2 - TM T16000m x2 Throttle - Win 11 Pro

I'll check if Surround is available on Linux.
January 17, 201313 yr Author Thank you all for the discussion. I did a bunch of web research on this, and Pascal_LSGC you are correct - OpenGL games are not compatible with nVidia's 3D implementation. My setup is 3x 27" 3D monitors run by two GTX 570 cards (which I'm looking for a reason to upgrade), configured for widescreen gaming (with or without 3D). I downloaded the demo for XP 10, and I don't know if it's me, or if it is the nature of this particular beast, but so far I cannot get simulator to look "right" with 3 monitors. FSX and MS Flight seemed to recognize the extra screen real estate, and the extra monitors became the "peripheral vision". XP 10 seems to magnify everything to an unusable size. If anyone knows a fix to this, I'd love to try it. Although I love what 3D does for flight sims, I'm willing to consider 2D simming since XP10 looks quite promising. I don't think I can give up the other two monitors, though... Thanks again, all!
January 19, 201313 yr How about reducing your heat output of your computer and power consumption? You could use 1 video card with 3 outputs from a 670 or 680 instead of having to run 2x 570s sucking the juice and putting out the heat... Also, try the FOV (field of view) option at the bottom of the rendering options pane...set it for 130 degrees or nearly that and reduce the vertical FOV or raise it to stretch/shrink the zooming... I am thinking about a GTX 690 (which supports 3D with 3 monitors as well). Holding off because I think the next gen of cards is right around the corner, and I'd like to see what's in the offering... I will try the FOV suggestions you made - thanks!!
