Blew dust off FSX...what a difference 5 years makes! WOW
This is a great topic - thanks to the OP for posting it, and thanks especially to all of you who have taken time to post your thoughts! I also have been away from FSX for years. I flirted briefly with Flight, but my heart wasn't in it anymore after MS pulled the plug. I've been of the mindset that FSX would never compare with Flight's flight engine and scenery (at least as represented in Hawaii). Perhaps I've been wrong! I am considering reinstalling FSX. I have GEX and REX, but I bought them at least 5 or 6 years ago. Are they still usable? I imagine they have been upgraded significantly since my original purchase. Would I be better off starting over with new addons, or will the ones I have update to the latest and greatest? Would I be correct in guessing that FSX still does not make use of multiple cores or SLI? Thanks again!

Any thoughts about XPX with 3D Surround?
I am thinking about a GTX 690 (which supports 3D with 3 monitors as well). Holding off because I think the next gen of cards is right around the corner, and I'd like to see what's in the offering... I will try the FOV suggestions you made - thanks!!

Any thoughts about XPX with 3D Surround?
Thank you all for the discussion. I did a bunch of web research on this, and Pascal_LSGC you are correct - OpenGL games are not compatible with nVidia's 3D implementation. My setup is 3x 27" 3D monitors run by two GTX 570 cards (which I'm looking for a reason to upgrade), configured for widescreen gaming (with or without 3D). I downloaded the demo for XP 10, and I don't know if it's me, or if it is the nature of this particular beast, but so far I cannot get simulator to look "right" with 3 monitors. FSX and MS Flight seemed to recognize the extra screen real estate, and the extra monitors became the "peripheral vision". XP 10 seems to magnify everything to an unusable size. If anyone knows a fix to this, I'd love to try it. Although I love what 3D does for flight sims, I'm willing to consider 2D simming since XP10 looks quite promising. I don't think I can give up the other two monitors, though... Thanks again, all!

Any thoughts about XPX with 3D Surround?
Sorry if the answer to this has already been posted - I checked the first several pages of posts, and a search came up empty. Is anyone running XPX 64-bit in a 3-monitor widescreen configuration? How about with nVidia 3D surround? Thanks for any input!

CH rudder pedals toe brake problem - any suggestions?
Thank you all for the replies and suggestions! I haven't had any time to get to Flight for the last couple of days, but next time I do, I'll try checking for other conflicting assignments (I also use the CH Flight Sim yoke) and switching left and right assignments.

CH rudder pedals toe brake problem - any suggestions?
Thanks for the reply! Yes. They work in FSX. Flight also sees the axis and registers it properly when setting up the controls. For whatever reason, the left toe brake doesn't work in game. Weird problem...

CH rudder pedals toe brake problem - any suggestions?
I'm having an odd issue with my left toe brake. I can assign the bindings properly in setup, so I know that the software is seeing the correct axis. The right toe brake works as it should. The left does nothing. The rudder control works fine (left and right). I have tried all of the combinations of axis/invert-axis settings I could to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions about how to fix? Thanks!!

This was the make or break for flight...
You could consider just hitting pause while you take care of business. That's not realistic, I realize, but neither is taking a number 2 mid-flight in a single engine piston plane. Unless you don't mind getting a little messy. But of course you can simulate that right at your computer without autopilot. Like I said, try pause.

Stereo 3D!
I just added 2 monitors to my 3d setup. They are the 27 inch 120 Hz acer monitors (now three of them, with the outer two angled in slightly). I use them with 2 nVidia gtx570 cards in SLI, and the setup is called 3d surround. The effect of deep 3d to the edges of peripheral vision is mind blowing. FYI if anyone else is thinking of doing this, the current WHQL nVidia drivers will not work properly with Flight. You need to install nVidia's latest "beta" drivers.

Does MS flight support muliple monitors?
I just took the plunge and ordered 2 more 3D 27" monitors. nVidia 3D surround here I come! Now I just have to wait impatiently until the monitors are delivered... I'm curious whether trackIR will be usable or helpful with such a setup (granted that's still an academic question regarding Flight). Anyone have a 3 monitor setup with FSX and also use trackIR?

New A/C available.
Here's a little good news --When MS releases a cockpitless plane, we stop complaining about lack of TrackIR support. This is similar to the technique of stubbing your toe in order to cure your headache.Well played, MS... well played.

Flight with nVidia 3D Surround?
I have trackIR, and love it. In fact, I'll probably still use it with the 3 monitor setup if I end up going that route. TrackIR adds realism and immersion, to a point, but I still can't help but think that peripheral vision would be even better. Combine that with the depth of 3D, and... I'm just dreaming now, aren't I...?

Track IR view control jumpy / jerky
I liked the idea that we could use this workaround, but in the end I gave up on it as well. I found constantly resetting the view to be less immersive than simply using the hat switch to pan around.Don't get me wrong - the hat switch isn't immersive or anything, but at least I know where the view will end up...I liked the idea that we could use this workaround, but in the end I gave up on it as well. Flight with nVidia 3D Surround?
Thanks a lot for the info and pics, styckx! Maybe it's just the wow factor of a big wide image, but the panoramic you posted looks amazing to me. I see the distorted clouds, but I wonder if the immersion factor would overcome the graphical quirks.Did you find that the peripheral vision was more immersive, contributed to more natural ways of judging when to turn final for landings (for example), and perhaps made the sensation of flight more compelling? These are the factors that would push me to invest in 2 more 27" 3D monitors. If it's just an interesting novelty, but doesn't really "do" much, then I can probably come up with something else to do with those $$.Thanks again for your insights!

Flight with nVidia 3D Surround?
Hello,Has anyone successfully used Flight with nVidia 3D surround? Does it work well, or are there glaring glitches?I am thinking about adding a couple of monitors to my 3D Vision (single monitor) setup, for use with Flight as well as other games, but it's the impact with Flight that would actually push me to do it.Thanks for any advice!SF

Track IR users - please...
I've been reading these forums since the late 1990s, and used to post quite a bit (particularly about the original Fly!). I've periodically checked in since then, but haven't posted anything in years.Believe it or not, the Track IR thing is what motivated me to do it... I sent MS an email, and hope that my vote does its small part to help push Track IR support into reality!

Any experience with FSX and SSD drives?
There isn't much info out there that I can find about SSD drives with flight sims. It seems that they should greatly speed up loading, based upon published stats. Any insight about SSDs vs a velociraptor drive (for example)?I'm planning on adding a drive to boot/use just for FSX, so any thoughts would be appreciated!
