Track IR view control jumpy / jerky

Featured Replies

I am using TrackIR Mouse Emulation to control the view. It works, but the view seems jumpy or jerky, not smooth at all. I did uncheck "enhance mouse precision" (or something like that) in the Windows Control Panel. Didn't help. Does anyone using TrackIR have this issue? My system is i5-2500K/560Ti. I have 8G memory, but only Windows XP. Thanks.

TrackIR usability is dubious at best, at this point. I've tried it, and it's smooth for me, but the view rarely comes back to center, and I have to hit view reset almost every time. That's a real pain, so I'm not using it again until they bring in proper TrackIR implementation.

for me the view does center back. well, sort of. but at least I don't have to reset the view every time. Funny different people got different results (or issues rather)...

I liked the idea that we could use this workaround, but in the end I gave up on it as well. I found constantly resetting the view to be less immersive than simply using the hat switch to pan around.Don't get me wrong - the hat switch isn't immersive or anything, but at least I know where the view will end up...I liked the idea that we could use this workaround, but in the end I gave up on it as well. I feel like I'm the tape in a Roland RE-201 Space Echo

Same thing on my system too, I get the "not smooth" and "doesn't return to center" behavior, I tried turning off enhanced precision, but unfortunately didn't work with my particular system.Looking forward to real TrackIR someday (after more important things like leaderboards for the great gaming masses no doubt :D) but for now the workaround is better than no TrackIR (like non-alcoholic beer to a beer connoisseur).

Gang please, if you have not, email the Flight team and let them know how important it is to you, to have native Track IR support implemented into Flight! For me it is another peripheral just like my stick and throttle, and just as important, and needs to have support. I view it just like if they did not support joysticks and I had to fly with the mouse.Drop them a note if you haven't , the more they hear from us maybe, just maybe, the quicker it might get implemented:[email protected]

Some questions about track ir...........I am not now using track ir, and never have used it in the past either, so the whole thing is almost completely unfamiliar to me. With that being said, I would like to know how "wonky" the software is. I mean, is this a simple plug and play usage in some or most games, or is it like FSX, something that is constantly being tweaked, and with loads of issues that experienced users have learned to work around and/or ignore?Just asking, because I am not sure why the track ir maker and MS would not work together quickly to resolve this if it was a relatively simple implementation.A quick visit to the track ir website shows many users experiencing difficulty's that indicate that it might not be a simple matter, in which case I wonder if MS might just be trying to avoid introducing complications/service issues/failure points.

I have never had trouble with my track ir unless it is not properly or fully supported by the game. I have never had a problem in FSX.I found it to be a plug and play experience. In version 4, I tweaked the profiles, but in version 5, the default profiles work very well for me.I've been using track ir for about 3-4 years now.I think the most common problems are related to having an weak machine. All the panning around will impact frame rates. There are some USB chipset issues with older motherboards. If you get a lot of strong sunlight or florescent lamps facing into the track ir camera, it will sometimes confuse it.Some older games do not allow one to modify the default viewpoint or do not pan the view as expected. You will not be able to use keystrokes and track ir together to set the default viewpoint. At least I've never seen a product slow that.

HiFlyer,I have been using Track IR for years, first with the Track IR3 which gave 2 degrees of freedom movement, then added the Vector Expansion for it, which gave 3 degrees of freedom movement for it - which was awesome. The I upgraded to the Track IR4 Pro, which gave higher resolution and wider field of view.I am about to pull the trigger on the Track IR5, which gives even a higher resolution and even wider field of view. For me and my experience, it probably took me < 30 minutes to get acclamated to it. Once I did, it all became second nature to me and really gave no thought as to my head movements, it all came " natural". Many folks have stated the same after getting their first one, some it takes a little longer, and a relative few - very few - just did not like it.My initial impression on that first flight with it - I remember that flght like it was yesterday - it was in IL2 FB/PF, a combat flight, and my impression was WOW. Big time wow! It was my singal largest advancement for my enjoyment of a flight sim probably since getting my first joystick all those years ago.Now the software can be a little intimidating, as it has so many ways you can tweak and tune your profile to your liking. There is no reason one cannot adjust all those settings to get it feeling just perfect for them. I think some just load up the default profile, it is too sensitive for them and they decide they do not like it. There are many profiles that have been created by others posted at their website, or better yet - just read the manual and take a few minutes to tweak the thing to your liking - this is what I did.Until Flight came along, I always said there would be no way I would fly without Track IR. I am relectantly doing so with Flight, as I have to. However, if MS chooses not to implement support for it, I will choose not to continue purchasing any future DLC for Flight, as much as I love the sim I just will not. While the issues you have seen posted on the NP forums are there, they really are relatively few. And most folks post on those forums because they have an issue, not to commune like a forum like Avsim or post how much the like Track IR. And a lot of those issues they post about, are related to not taking the time to read the manual, install properly, or learn the software to do their own tweaking.I myself find it hard to believe anyone would not like Track IR, but realize there will always be " different strokes for differnt folks".As mentioned previously, to me Track IR is another necessary peripheral for my enjoyment of Flight Sims, just like my joystick throttle, and rudders. And it has been many years since a game/sim of flying has been released, that did not have native support for Track IR right out the chute. It is my hope MS had already planned to implement, and they just did not have time due to to early release of Flight, and is on a list somewhere to be added in the future. Which is why I continue to encourage folks to email them desire, in hopes to get that moved up that list. I may be totally wrong, that is just my hope.Anyone purchasing a Track IR unit, it certainly would be a roll of the dice if that were for them - however I think the odds are pretty dang high, that the buyer will absolutely love it and wonder why they went so long without it....All above of course, just my humble opinion.

HiFlyer,I've never had any issue with TrackIR - till Flight, which does not really support it. I've used it in IL2, FS9, FalconBMS. It's quite worth it especially for the games that support 6DOF. You can try out some free solutions using a webcam, such as FreeTrack, before you spend the money on TrackIR.My system is quite new, as mentioned in my first post. Actually I just replaced my 5 year old rig with it. Strangely, it was smoother in my older system.

Yes same here, never had an issue with my TrackIR which I've used for years, I suppose like any USB device it can suffer from USB conflicts and the sensor can be sensitive to light sources behind your head but usually you can tweak that not to be a problem.Other than that TrackIR really is a very useful and immersive flight controller, it takes just a bit of getting used to (training your brain to move your head and eyes to move the camera), but once you do, it becomes something you don't even think about but becomes natural. That's the reason so many of us were so surprised about the missing support in Flight, it becomes such a natural thing and every flight sim has supported it for the last few years, and once you experience the immersion it is hard to go back to not having it, almost like giving up a flight stick to go to the mouse as a controller. It is easily the best sim hardware component I have bought with the exception of my flight stick, I think I would rather part with my rudder pedals and go back to twist stick rudder than give up my TrackIR.

Fwiw,I have been meaning to go ahead and do this, and the recent talk has motivated me to pull the trigger, I just placed an order with Natural Point for the Track IR 5 Pro Bundle, to upgrade from my TIR4.I did notice on there, buying directly from them - the mfg - they offer a 30 day guarentee, so one does have 30 days to see if they like it or not with a return option. I did not go so far as to read all the details on the return option, ie whether there was restocking fees involved, but it is at least offered... directly from the mfg anyway.

I have used TrackIR for a few years and never had any issues with it (other than it not being supported in MS Flight).Where I really miss having it is during landings. When trying to turn base or final, I keep wanting to quickly check back over my shoulder or look out over/under my wing to see the runway so that I can gage the timing of my turn correctly. The HAT switch is just way to slow for this, and pulling my hand off the throttle to use mouse look doesn't really work either. What would actually work in this situation (if we can't have TrackIR) is snap views like games had before there were VC's and we just used 2D cockpits. Like CFS, CFS2, and Hornet 2.0. You'd still use the HAT switch, but it would be quicker and more accurate.Of course, I'd rather MS just implemented TIR support.

So I wonder what the problem is, if any?Surely if so many others can implement it, then MS should be able to as well, especially if it works in FSX, and Flight is similar to FSX in so many basic ways..........In fact, have the Track IR people had any contact?(attempted to reach MS) I did not see mention of it during my quick skim of the forums. And is this workaround what you all are using now? http://forum.avsim.net/tutorials/article/28-using-trackir-and-glovepie-with-flight/
