Era Scenery

Featured Replies

I have seen the Hawaii add-on that adds scenery and airports circa 1937 (they look great), and aircraft, and am wondering if there is other scenery available for different eras. My interest is in WW2 era scenery. Miller

Miller,It sounds like you're describing Bill Lyons' Golden Hawaii package. For the low, low price of $12.50 you get a beautifully modelled Sikorsky S-43 transport, an autogyro, and a 1930's rendering of the Hawaiian islands, including airports, buildings, and scenery appropriate for the era. (No... I'm not associated with Bill's group. I'm just a very happy customer.)As a follow-up to Golden Hawaii, Bill produced a simulation of the fictional Bora Gora island group. The centerpiece of the package is a Grumman Goose featured in a 1980's television program called "Tales of the Golden Monkey", an adventure show set in the 1930's. The island scenery includes a fictional volcano that has to be seen to be believed. (Which begs the question, "Can you believe in fictional things?")FWIW, I don't think that Bill, being the humble person that he is, gets enough credit for the great airfiles he produces. But every one of his airplanes is an absolute joy to fly. You can find all his stuff at http://www.windrfters.com/Ken

Here, here... a big round of applause for Bill Lyons. I have pretty much everything I can find that Bill Lyons has done that will work in FS9 (had them for FS8 too!). They are an absolute blast, love the era settings, old towns, farms with dirt strips, an Alaskan lakeside setting for the Swift amphibian (look out for the critters while you taxi). In his forums you will also be able to find a file he did about a year ago that will allow you to switch between golden era AI traffic and your present traffic. I have and will continue buying each of his releases cause of the big bank for the buck... not just the aircraft but the sceneries and flights that go with them.Just my two (maybe three) cents worth.Zane

Thanks for the feedback. I checked out the Lyons site and there is alot there. Thanks for posting it. After looking at the scenery they have available, you have to wonder why everyone who makes aircraft and scenery doesn't do it like that! Great stuff. Am wondering if anyone else is doing scenery scenery for different decades. Seems that would be a good niche market. iMiller

Hi Folks,I won't bore you with more details as the other posters did a good job describing packages by Lynn and Bill.Oh well, let me add just one other detail. When you fly in their Golden Hawaii world, make sure you have AI traffic set above 50%. Amazing.... Oh yeah - the Alaska scenery which comes with the Swift is beautiful.I've said this before and now I'll say it again - Many thanks Lynn and Bill. For those who may not be aware of it, they released most (if not all) of their excellent FS2002 aircraft as freeware. Do a search here at AVSIM of Lyons in fs2002. Previously those planes cost a very reasonable $ 12.50.

Hi,I have scenery that will convert many California airports to the way they appeared in 1959 (SFO, LAX, SAN). However, this is very simple scenery without much "eye candy" - not like the wonderful things done by Bill.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___
