Hey,

I was wondering if anyone could help with me with a problem I am facing in FSX and Rail Simulator 2013. My system specifications are the following:

Intel i5 3570 @ 4.2 GHz

GigaByte Z77D3H

8GB DDR3 Ram

AMD Radeon 6870

Windows 8 Pro 64 bit

My friend has a similar system specifications apart from he has an i5 2500K and he seems to get an average of 30 fps in the NGX, default ground textures and running UK2000 scenery at some UK airports. When he records using Fraps he only drops to around 20-25 fps and the game performance is smooth. But when I try and do the same I drop to around 10-15 fps and you can notice the game that a drop of FPS has occurred and doesn’t look as smooth as it should be.

Our FSX.cfg is very similar and the FSX settings and graphics control panel options all match up. I am not quite sure why I have a bigger FPS drop.

Anyone got any clues?

Perhaps your friend is recording half-size and/or 30 fps video capture and you are recording at full-size and/or 60 fps video capture?

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Thanks for the suggestion, but we have literally covered every settings to detail with each other. It doesn't just happen while recording, he can play "Train Simulator 2013" at say 30fps while I'm lucky to hit 12, and this is during normal gameplay and no recording.

Hi i'm only new here too and I recently bought a new computer so am quite new to all the 'techno' stuff. My specs are.....

Intel i5 3570K @ Stock 3.4GHz

8GB DDR3 RAM

Nvidia GTX660

At first when I ran FSX I was pretty shocked at how poor my performance was! I mean I was getting hight fps in some areas but anything with the slight bit of detail I would drop below 20 which I didn't really want after spending money on a new system. However I researched "FSX tweaks" and theres a mountain of information on the internet. One of the best tweaks I came across was using an external frame rate limiter to set your frames to 30fps. Also I downloaded 'Nvidia inspector' for my graphics card and was able to change a setting called v-sync to 1/2 refresh rate. This makes the game run so much more smoothly. Also I think theres someone on the web called "ventubo" or something along those lines that will actually tweak your fsx.cfg file for you instantly which helped a great deal.

Also as your card is a differnt brand you will need to find some software that is able to make changes to your grapics card. Have you got any monitoring software so you can see your GPU usage and temps?

What card has your friend got? Your processor is more than good enough to run the game so its certainly not that! If anything I think it might be your card thats letting you down.

With all my tweaks I run, PMDG 737NGX with REX 2.0 and ezdok no problem at 30fps.

Hope that helps a bit!

Yes, it's no secret. The AMD 6870 is definitely not the best card to run the game with, and it's believed FSX is more suited to Nvidia anyway however we both have the very same card so there should be no difference.

Hi Sam

When you say "Similar", what are the actual differences, or do you mean identical?

Have you identified any software on your computer that he does not have, or has a totally different make of, such as security software for example?

We have literally tried everything to see what the problem is including disabling all start up tasks, all driver versions are the same and I have tried disabling any security software with no difference.

hi,

as many times as i have said and a load of other simmers, having the exact same specs as each other each system will not run identical at all. YOU yourself have to find the sweet point even if that means being 1-2 fps difference from you mate it will never run the same.

I7 10700K 16GB 3600MHZ RTX3080FE

Check what you have running in the back ground. Every system have there own programs that are unique to it. A example is a DELL system might have programs running in the background that say a HP system would not have. Even diferent video card can make a minor differance. The other things could be the amount and type of traffic you have. By that if you are using aircraft that are not designed for AI it can slow your system down. Aircraft like the defaul B737-400 and if you are using payware aircraft as AI that will cause a major slow down. As a rule of thumb the more detailed the aircraft the more it will effect your frame rates when you use it.

I get that part, but I asked if you actually had "similar" or "Identical" software.... The 2 are VERY different mate...

Similar could mean you both have antivirus but they could be totally different, and believe me, I've seen some really odd behaviour caused by some of the shite AV companies out there like AVG/Norton which were cured simply by removing the software and replacing it with a far better one, but that's just 1 example..

Even a disabled AV still affects your system because it modifies your system upon install, in different ways depending on the AV software, same as "MS Office" and other web browsers, printer software running in the background etc...

So, are your systems identical, or just "similar", and if "similar", what are the exact differences either in hardware and or software?
