B-737 Tutorial and FSX.CFG question

Featured Replies

I installed FSX Deluxe edition on my Windows 7 computer and purchased the PMDG-737.

Now I am about to study the B-737 introduction tutorial.

This tutorial suggests to make the following changes in the FSX.CFG file:

a) In Graphics: HIMEMFIX=1

B) Texture_Max_Load = 4096

The problem is that the FSX.CFG shows no Graphic Section where I could check if the two entries are entered.

Therefore I wonder where to find the proper FSX.CFG file ?

As suggested by the tutorial I installed FSX on the c drive and not in the default .

I appreciate your help

Hit the Windows Key and R , the one (between Alt and Ctrl)

WinKey+R wait for the text box to open, then type %appdata% in this box, [percentage symbols inclusive]

Microsoft>FSX

Browse for the CFG File, there should usually be two of them in here, the one you want has a file Type 'CFG File'.

The one highlighted here is the CFG File.

Note the file type as CFG file, while the one below it is a Text document.

Okay, now be sure to run FSX (Open an actual Flight as well) at least once before modifying your CFG File.

Now open the CFG File, and do a search for GRAPHICS, so Ctrl+F and wait for the prompt to open, and then enter GRAPHICS in the text box, and then run a search.

Alternatively you can search for '1024' because that's what FSX has the texture size capped at native.

You can also navigate to FSX.cfg manually by enabling Show hidden files, folders, and drives in Folder Options in the Control Panel, and then following the path C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX. The graphics section of FSX.cfg should be in brackets: [GRAPHICS].

Ensure that you reset the texture max load setting to 4096 every time you adjust your settings in FSX, as doing so will cause the value to revert to the default of 1024.

If, after you do all that, you still don't have those two entries, you can just manually type them in. Those two you mentioned should be there, I believe. If you follow Word Not Allowed's guide, there are a couple of entries that must be made manually. You can create a section as long as you follow proper syntax.

The texture max load setting should really be there already, so I suggest visually scanning the text, paying attention to where you see enclosing brackets (I believe Find is sometimes ineffective). You do not want to create duplicate entries or sections and cause settings to conflict with each other.

HIGHMEMFIX=1 needs to be added manually, though.

Sorry... HIMEMFIX=1 and HIGHMEMFIX=1 this is the same?

I believe the former is just an abbreviation or typo. HIGHMEMFIX=1 is what I have seen and used.
