I must admit, I enjoy working through tutorials. I get a lot of information from YouTube, Angle of Attack, and other educational venues, but nothing ties all this knowledge together better than a well written tutorial. Step by step with information and options on a written page ... yeah, that's the ticket. Ryan has written some wonderful tutorials for PMDG, especially on the 737 NGX and the 777. His tutorial #2 on the NGX is a masterpiece. I have worked these tutorials so often, I can almost do them without reference, ALMOST. It's a very time consuming and difficult effort to produce a good tutorial, I'm sure. So I had an idea. Wouldn't it be great for some of the very knowlegeable and willing participants of this forum to generate their own tutorials, publish them on AVSIM in a collected location and open them to scrutiny and conversation. Let's take some of the pressure off Ryan, and let him finish #2 on the 777. These tutorials wouldn't have to broad cold and dark to shutdown tutorials (although they certainly could be), but could concentrate on a particular aspect of 777 operations, such as fueling, flight planning, in flight operations, emergency procedures, etc. We could even have contests, voted on by members, for best tutorials in certain categories. The possiblities are endless. A lot of the AVSIM members, like me, are retired and have some spare time to contribute. What do you think?

Alex, your post is why I am so interested in this subject. I noticed you switched from DX9 (default). DX10 makes all the difference to me. No dis to you intended at all. There may be such a comparison already, I just haven't come across it yet.

Until I see a thoughtful, unbiased comparison. from a user who knows what they are doing. who has run DX10 and FSX, and P3D, I'll stay with my FSX (DX10). I've never been happier with a simulator and mine looks damn good at the present time. I bought FSX SE because it was on sale for $5, but it is sitting in a corner, probably never to be used. I'm still not happy with the P3D EULA, I feel like I'm being manipulated. I don't like that. If Steve had not developed the DX10 "fixer", perhaps I would have a different mindset. I thought it might be a problem with NAVDATA updates. My FlightSim Commander (updated last month) still has TESGA in it's NAVDATA file. I need to redo the tutorial just for proficiency, so I'll report back when I get to that stage. I'll update NAVDATA to the current iteration before I begin. It may be a few days. This section of the tutorial just shows you how to cut a corner ... pretty simple.

I remember doing much better on my school reports when I led off with a funny anecdote or joke, preferably one related to the subject at hand. You might try one that starts out ... "Robert Randazzo and Tom Allensworth walk into a bar ..."

A few FSX SE questions. Can you purchase FSX SE but not download it right away? Can you download it, install it, uninstall it, reinstall it without paying additional? Do you get all additional updates for free? Thanks

You're gonna run out of SSD space if you use very many sceneries or aircraft. Especially, with the system and other peripheral applications running. I just bought a 1TB SSD and it's already 1/3 full. Of course, I'm an idiot for buying a lot of stuff.

Could PMDG publish a list of developers who have their permission to violate the EULA? That way we can make better buying decisions.

Ya'll are tempting me to make the switch. But my FSX looks sooo good with DX10, ORBX and O/C at 4.8. Plus, I probably have a gazillion add-ons that won't work in P3D. Anyhow, congrats on the new discovery. I'm excited for you, and maybe me fairly soon.

EZCA gives you more and better views, both inside and outside the airplane. I wouldn't fly without it.

I very recently upgraded to the 4790K from Ivy Bridge. I must have gotten a lucky chip, because I can O/C to 5.1 GHz. But I have it "backed off" to 4.8 GHz. Incredible. All of a sudden, FPS is no longer that big of an issue. It's more about fidelity and realism. Best simming so far. So yeah, unless your going for the "x" series, the 4970K is the cat's meow. Use the Z97 motherboard, as that will allow forward compatibility with the next iteration of Intel processors?
