January 20, 201313 yr Hi folks, I used to use FSM for scenery cfg editing and error checking among other things but have not done so for some years... It used to be the case that it could be made to work by tweaking the date back to pre 2005, but my current Windows7 setup gets really upset if I try that! Anyway, does anybody know of a modern (ie currently working / supported) equivalent for this? The functionality that I am looking for now is the ability to ferret through the scenery files and folders and then tell me if there are any bad errors / missing effects / missing textures..? Cheers, Geoff
January 20, 201313 yr Hi Geoff I'm sure others can answer your question, Anyway, does anybody know of a modern (ie currently working / supported) equivalent for this? Just wondering, have you tried the patch for FlightSim Manger? With it you don't have to change the date/time. http://www.flightsim...earchid=5357237 File Name: fsmgr.zip at Flightsim.com RJ
January 20, 201313 yr Author Nice one, I knew about that but the last time I looked our it I didn't find it. Thanks for the link. Geoff
January 21, 201313 yr http://sourceforge.net/projects/fs-sceditor/ Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
January 21, 201313 yr Author http://sourceforge.n...ts/fs-sceditor/ Yes, that's the one I have been using the last years. It doesn't have the landclass scanning or effects checking of FSM though. Got FSM working now and all good. I /had/ thought that it had a capability for checking if a scenery was missing textures (or if they were in the wrong format) but I see it does not... I don't suppose any such tool exists..? I'm hunting for the cause of some semi-repeatable non-AI related g3d.dll CTDs... Geoff
January 21, 201313 yr g3d.dll CTDs....Fsuipc has a built in workaround to block. them in many instances. If you don't already have it installed, get yourself a copy. The free version will suffice. http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66139-updated-modules/ Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
January 21, 201313 yr Author Really, wow! I was sure that was only for FSX.... I'll check it out right now. Geoff

January 22, 201313 yr Author Tried it, followed instructions to a T,....... and it doesn't work. Are you sure? I got it working, but only after realising that the patch requires the path to Flightsim Manager to be correct. Watch out if you have a 64 bit OS, as you will have to send FSM to the Program Files folder and not the "Program Files(x86)" one... // FSUIPC: no evidence that the latest (3.999y5) has any g3d.dll avoidance functionality... I will ask on Pete's forum, but I think he said before that the fix was FSX only. Shame, but that's the way of things. Geoff
January 22, 201313 yr I just turned the clock back to get it to work. Interesting progam. It found a few things that could be fixed. I was hoping it would locate corrupt textures as well, and it looked like that would've been a future feature.
January 22, 201313 yr Author Yeah, I think an ability to scan for corrupted textures would be nice. I don't know of any way to do it currently apart from a semi-manual method: - List the textures by size and check for 'odd' sized ones - Open the thumbnail viewer in DXTBMP and check that there are no 'unopenable' ones Geoff
