January 22, 201313 yr Hi! I recently upgraded my PC with a new video card (Gigabyte HD 7750), which generally works fine. But, scenery textures sometimes come out flickering; airport textures, buildings, etc. I don't recall having this problem before, when I had older and less advanced components in my PC. So, any idea what could be wrong; my settings in the video card? My FS2004 setup? Grateful for help and advice. Thanks in advance. Hans Hermansson Sweden
January 22, 201313 yr I just upgraded my video card also. I went from an ATI Radeon 4850 to an ATI Radeon 7850. I'm seeing the same problem. Also my ground textures are extremely blurry. They weren't like this with my old card. I did rename fs9.cfg and let the sim rebuild another one. So the blurries are probably due to a setting in there. I just wanted you to know that you are not alone. I've done research on the internet over the past few days about the flickering problem. It seems to be inherent to all 7xxx series Ati/AMD cards in non DX11 games. In DX11 games some people are reporting black screen crashes where the sound loops in a loud buzzing. Some say it's the 7xxx series video card that's causing these problems. Others say it's the drivers. Another thing I would like to add is that since I upgraded my card I am now seeing the infamous crash to a black screen followed by the message "fs2004 has encountered a problem and needs to restart." I never had this problem with my 4850 card. I am within my 30 day return period and I am seriously thinking about returning this new 7850 card for a refund. FS9 runs perfect with my old 4850. I only upgraded to a 7850 for other games I am playing. I haven't purchased or used an Nvidia card sine 1996. So I really don't want to go back to them. I have been extremely happy with ATI/AMD up until this new 7850. Bob
January 22, 201313 yr Author Hi again! and thanks for extensive reply. Too bad that you have problems, too. My card is very good; it only the FS2004 scenery textures that flicker a bit. Maybe there is some incompatibility between the sim and the video card. FS2004 is an old game when video card used AGP-slots with very inferior performance. So, maybe I will just have to grin and bear it. I hope you can fix yours; maybe by going back to your older card. Thanks! Hansinsweden
January 22, 201313 yr I have a new computer that came with an AMD HD7570 card, and I get decent performance out of it when the frame rates are set around 30 fps. I have no flickering problems with it at all. I'm running FScene and REX and I find the graphics to be similar to the standard ones in FSX, and much richer than the standard FS9 graphics. My planes are mostly Carenado and MAAM-SIM, with a few other freeware gems thrown in, so that puts a fair load on the card. In a way, I take some comfort in your post because I was thinking of upgrading the card, but now I'll just keep mine. So you have helped others if not yourself. Thanks for sharing.
January 29, 201313 yr Suggest you do the following: 1- Open the AMD Vision Control Center. 2- Go to :Gaming then 3d Applications. 3- Set Anti-Aliasing to "Overide Application Settings". Plus set level to 4X. 4- Then set Anti-Aliasing Mode to "Super Sample AA" These settings gave me super clear flicker free textures using an AMD Radeon HD-7750. Martiro
January 31, 201313 yr Also be sure to switch off anti-aliasing in the FS9 user interface settings otherwise your external settings will not work correctly. Regards, Mel
March 8, 201511 yr I'm getting this flickering graphics also. It only effects exterior (spot) view of the plane above FL250. Clouds, ground scenery and the plane at lower altitudes are fine. Generally, the surfaces of the winds and horizontal stabilizer will flicker consistently. Depending on angle of my view, If I move fairly close behind the plane the fuselage will also flicker. This problem effects all aircraft. This started a year ago when I still had the Nvidia GTX-530 graphics card. I have since upgraded to the Nvidia GTX-750ti card.Addons: Ultimate Scenery US / Canada.FSRealWx Lite. FSUIPC. F1View. ScreenshotSaver. Larry F.South Bend, IN, USA.
March 10, 201511 yr I'm getting this flickering graphics also. The first three things that you list would not cause your aircraft to flicker. You might try disabling the last two if you have been running them while flying. Just to eliminate them as a possible cause. If your high rise buildings around Seattle (example) and your AI aircraft do not flicker or shimmer then it may very well be that one or both of the last two are responsible. Have you recently changed the format of your aircraft textures? Are you using a external program to tune the graphics card driver settings? Do you have 'render to texture' switched on in FS9, and at what level do you have mip maps set at in FS9? I finished high school at Mishawaka HS. (A very long time ago). Are they still horrible at sports? Regards,
March 11, 201511 yr Since this effects all aircraft and only above 25,000 ft, I'm at a loss.Format of the aircraft textures are not changed from their original format.Everything else in the games appears to be normal.I am only using the drivers from Nvidia (not the default Windows drivers).Render to texture, not sure what that is. I did delete the FS9.cfg fileand start over from scratch. I use mostly the default settings exceptI set the resolution to 900 X 1600 and High quality or higher.I also play Euro Truck Sim2 and Haney Golf World without any graphics problems.
March 11, 201511 yr I am only using the drivers from Nvidia (not the default Windows drivers). I am not sure if it would apply in your case, however, some Nvidia drivers and FS9 don't seem to work well together. You might wish to look into that possibility. When you installed the GTX-750ti card did you also remove the GTX-530 driver and install the GTX-750ti new driver? If you did not then that might very well be your problem. I will say that the problem happening only when you are above 25,000 ft. is exceptionally odd. "I set the resolution to 900 X 1600 and High quality or higher."'. That sounds a bit odd to me. The first number in the resolution setting is usually a larger number than the second. Width x Height. For example my setting is 1680 x 1050. Did you mean 1900 x 1600? Regards,
