August 16, 200421 yr Hello everyone. I was invited by a Lufthansa pilot to join his "refresher".So i met him and 2 other pilots (1 instructor) at Lufthansa base in Frankfurt Rhein-Main (EDDF)This was so great. We were flying 4 hours (!) practicing engine failures, go arounds, blocked runway, hydraulic failures, wind shears, engine blasts and so on...The feeling was so intense i really forgot i was sitting in a simulator...Well here are the pictures...Lufthansa Basehttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88133.jpganother sim already in usehttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88134.jpginstructor's panelhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88135.jpgpreparing...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88136.jpgamazing...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/88137.jpg
August 16, 200421 yr Wow...coolness!So...*did* u uphold the sacred MSFS manoeuvre and fly under a bridge? :)
August 17, 200421 yr You musta been in heaven. I'm sure when you got back home you fired up a 747 on FS. So tell us... howz it compare to the simulator?
August 17, 200421 yr Author Look it's the PMDG 744! LoL great pics..Best Wishes,
Randy J. Smith

P M D G's 747-400

coming to a runway near you
Caution! August 17, 200421 yr yes, it felt like heaven LOLand no, i couldnt fly under a bridge...The outside graphics were pretty ugly...just flat terrain in most areas. Only detailed graphics were the runways and airports.I was told Lufthansa gets a new generation soon, that has detailed graphics like in FS9. Now their graphics looks like FS4...But the feeling was so real i really forgot i was sitting in a box. When we touched down and autobrake set in, you had to hold on somewhere or you would fall of your seat !When we took off you got pushed in your seat and believe it or not, after 4 hours of flying i even felt a little sick because of all the braking, accelerating and banking !I was most impressed when we did some terrain avoidance practice. The 747-400 had a weight of 250tons (250.000kg). We took of at Insbruck and were heading direct into a mountain. When the GPWS set in, they set full power and pulled the stick real hard and this plane was climbing like a rocket.I dont know if i remember correct, but the instructor said that the engines deliever 100 tons (100.000kg) power, so if the plane only weighted 100.000kg we could go straight up !?Pretty impressive. And yes the lightning was much much darker than FS9 panels.Of course i fired up FS9 at home and tried the A340 from PSS. Their 747 doesnt work in FS2004 and i didnt even try the MS 747.Well it was much easier following the FlightDirector but the handling somehow felt realistic as far as a noob like me can tell...I recommend everyone book an hour in a simuator at your local airport. You can book simulator flights at the Lufthansa base here: http://www.proflight.de/greetings
August 17, 200421 yr Great shots. I remember going in a 767 simulator once, and, as you just said, the graphics are not too flash. Great experence Brent Lewis
August 17, 200421 yr Ive noticed that too....poor graphics on professional sims. FS9 easily exceeds the lot! (at least from what I've seen out there).http://www.bleep.demon.co.uk/Images/737.jpg
August 17, 200421 yr "I was told Lufthansa gets a new generation soon"Here are some pics from the new sim:http://www.glideslope.de/wedding.htm /Tord Hoppe, Sweden
August 17, 200421 yr We have an FTD at our flight school (not full motion, although the wrap around screen does give one a sense of "flying"). It also has "FS4- style" graphics, but the apparent motion and feel of the controls outweighs the scenery disadvantage. Of course, I was in the clouds all the time doing IR tasks, so other than breaking out at minimums I didn't see too much :)I'm really looking forward to the UA sim event here in Denver.Bruce.
