August 18, 200421 yr All of a sudden, FS2004 won't let me save flights...I try to save it, but I always return to a flight I had saved several days ago...I tried deleting a bunch of saved flights, thinking maybe I could only save a certain number of them, but that did no good...Advice and help appreciated!Steve in Kansas
August 18, 200421 yr I have the same problem also, don't know what could have cuased it. As work around I use Ken Salter's FS Configurator under the underinterface/situation setting I change it to the correct airport. However any ideas on what could have cuased this problem would be appreciated.Bob
August 19, 200421 yr I never could save flights in FS2k4 so your one up on me... The worst is trying to load FS2k4 with one of my so called saved flights... It never worked and the flight that was saved either never loaded again or was corrupted in some way. This is really a big problem with third party aircraft (at least for me)... I'm glad to know you actually were able to save something at one point in time... *:-* FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
August 19, 200421 yr Hi All, Dillon the interesting thing is that I used to have no problem saving a flight before in FS9. I asked Ken Salter, could the use of FS Autostart be a problem. I did not get an answer form him about this problem. I am really confused about what could cause this problem. This is just a stange occurance.Bob
August 19, 200421 yr Hey Steve,After you save the flight are you setting this new flight as the default flight? If the answer is yes, then look in your FS9.cfg file and see if the default flight is being reset there or if your several-days-old-flight is still shown as the default flight. R-
August 19, 200421 yr Yep.......I was going to ask that....are you having problems saving flights in general or saving flights as the default flight?I had problems saving flights as the default flight. Just suddenly started happening for apparently no reason. The solution was to go to the FS9.cfg file and set up the SITUATION= path to the correct file name.
August 19, 200421 yr I don't believe the problem is fsautostart. I use it at least some of the time and have never had your problem.I would suggest renaming your fs9.cfg file (as a saved backup) and restarting fs9 to let it build a new file. Then see if you can save a flight. If so, you know there is a glitch in your original.you might also want to take a peek at your Flight Simulator Files under My Documents and see if everything looks like it is in order there as well.Good luck.RTH
August 19, 200421 yr Hi Anthony,That is just what I am doing, now but with Ken Salters FSConfig utility, which makes changing any .cfg file in FS very easy, great program.Like others my saved flights do bcome my default flight. Just strange that from within FS9 I can't make the saved flight the default flight.StrangeBob
August 19, 200421 yr I noticed this, too. I long ago gave up trying to get the sim to consistently accept my default choice from within the sim.I also make a routine of changing the day of any flight I've saved. When I go back to any saved flight at some later session, the graphics are dark, as if the sun isn't sunning like it should be. A simple date change brings it all back to what it should look like.I've accepted that these are simply quirks of the beast. :-) Greg
August 19, 200421 yr This problem is definitely something related to an addon that seems to permanently change the way FS saves default flights. What addon is it, I do not know.Everything was ok, until suddenly this started happening..I've never figured out why. However, I recently reformatted my computer so that I'll have a clean copy of Windows XP with which to install SP2.After installing FS9, the problem has disappeared. I'm taking careful note of the addons I'm installing to determine which may have caused the problem. If I find anything, I'll of course do a post here. For me, the problem isn't such a big deal, because I don't save flights.....only the cessna at KSEA with engines off and battery and avionics off, which I use to start all my flights to avoid potential problems with other addon aircraft. This problem therefore only crops up (or used to....knock on wood) when I delete my FS9.cfg file and allow the sim to build a new one. When starting FS, I go save the flight like mentioned above, but I always had to go put in the path manually in the FS9.cfg file.If you do have the problem, one way to make things easier, is to constantly use the same filename for your saved progressive flight.
August 19, 200421 yr Back in the days when Microsoft had it's own FS forum people suggested that you could avoid a lot of problems if you never changed the default flight. I forget the reasoning but it made sense at the time, so I've always followed that rule and rarely had problems with FS (except things that were obviously my fault). I don't know if this even applies to FS9, just thought I'd mention it.David
August 19, 200421 yr I have begun having this same problem, can not save a flight as default. If I had of thought it was an addon problem at the time that first noticed it, I would of tried to figure out what I had added, but it started a few addons ago, lol.The only workaround I have found if you like to start your next flight where you left off, is to make your default flight "previous flight". This way, when you exit, no need to save, the previous flight saves automatically. It would be nice to figure out what the problem is though. I am not convinced yet it is an addon problem as when I did a fresh format and a fresh install of FS, I immediatly make a complete backup of FS so that if anything ever goes wrong, I don't have to reinstall, only copy over the backup. The only thing I can think that wouldn't be covered with coping over the backup is the fs9.cfg file and the saved flights etc.
August 23, 200421 yr I've had a problem with saved flights not saving the flight plan. Also, some garbled text when I do start a saved flight. I'd like to do the .cfg fix, but there is no fs9.cfg file in the FS9 folder. Any suggestions?
August 23, 200421 yr The FS9.cfg file isnt' stored in the main FS directory. On my rig (XP Pro) it's in c:documents and settings[username]application datamicrosoftfs9fs9.cfg (or something like that, anyway) -- I'm not at home or I could double-check that. But the path is something of that nature.
