Good performance video cards for FS2004?

Recommended Posts

Hi again!

I recently bought a Gigabyte Radeon HD 7750 for my PC and FS2004.

But I am not quite satisfied with it; performance is average in my opinion.

So, could anyone give me tips about a possibly better card performancewise

in a $125 to $200 price range?

My setup: Intel 3,4 GHZ, 4GB RAM, ASUS Motherboard PCIExpress.

Grateful for tips.

Thanks!

Hans ... FS9 was designed in 2003/2004. It runs fine with graphic cards of the time and with XP, the OS of the time. Unlike FSX it is unlikely you will see much difference in the visual quality or performance with modern alternatives. The exception being the higher settings of Antialiasing and Anisotropic Filtering permitted with todays equipment.

If you are dissatisfied with your Radeon perhaps you need to revise its settings. Do not, however, set AA within FS9.

Early Radeons had difficulty rendering clouds in FS9 and as a consequence many simmers decided to support nVidea and most recommendations by 'gurus' usually discuss preferred settings for that range of cards.

I still think a newer video card, used with nvidia inspector, can work well for fs9.

Something like a gts 650 or 660 would do good things.

It would do well especially if the user cranks up the AA settings. These especially with a larger resolution monitor will make FS9 look smooth with no jaggies.

The HD7750 was a rather low end entry level card as it was, I wouldn't have expected too much from it. In that price range I'd look at the GTX 660 or 650Ti.

Hi again!

and thanks for advice.

Got your latest replies and I think I found a good alternative video card:

Gigabyte Geforce GTX 650TI, which I ordered today.

Seems pretty much in line with your views.

So, let's hope I get a little better performance.

Thanks again!

Pretty good card fly in stereo 3d with it in FSX and FS2004. Not the top of the shelf, but it still better than using the default video card attached to your mobo. Got 650 Gtx its similar to 7750hd overall.
