Autopilot

I am not a programer. I do have an idea though that makes sense to me but I do not have the programing skills needed. I have GMap from FSWidgets. This program picks info from Flight's Hud and shows your position on a GPS. The aircraft at the center of the GPS depicts the heading provided the Hud is enabled in Flight. So if we were able to pick altitude and heading info from the Hud similar to the way GMap picks heading info from the hud. Then take this info into a program that makes role/or yaw and pitch changes and sends them into Flight as joystick inputs. It might work as an autopilot or at least for heading hold. This would not need to break into Flight's code but simply Flight would just think that a joystick is sending it commands. I might be out to lunch but I think it could work. Any thoughts?

It may be that Flight has a set of dedicated memory locations, such as FSX, FS9 and earlier versions. From FSUIPC there are given capabilities to read and input data variables. You could always ask Pete Dowson if he'd like to explore the inner workings of Flight. Notice I wrote You and not I. I wouldn't imagine any interest on his part. And that type of programming skill far exceeds what I can muster up.

Moe, this was discussed a good while back but it didn't go anywhere as I remember. It seemed at the time that the lack of an interface like simconnect (FSX) or something similar made it difficult to decipher just how to make something work. Flight has its' own special architecture and no one that know of has dug deep into it. Probably the fact that development was halted on the sim had a lot to do with it.

II don't remember all the details, but you might search this forum and find the discussion.

Thank you.

I did a search and didn't find much. I knew I was reaching. Oh well. Thanks everyone for your input. Now my best bet is to win millions in the lottery, buy the rights for Flight from Microsoft, get the programers that MS fired to create an SDK, then see what can realy spin up from this good program.

Just venting, sorry

Capital idea, pun intended! There is just SO much wasted potential here that I still find so hard to understand!

I'm so serious about this that I will boldly make this statement. I will buy a Cessna 172 with autopilot from anyone who makes it first. I am honest when I say I will pay $1000 for this addon.
