Software won't work with Windows upgrade

Featured Replies

I am looking for help with software issues.

It seems that every time I upgrade Windows, one or more of the custom FS software no longer works.

When I upgraded to Windows 7, MRAI compiler stopped working. Despite several hours searching for an answer, I was not able to fix the software and no longer can use it. When I try to use MRAI Compiler, I get error messages saying that a file is missing/unregistered.

Now, I have upgraded to Windows 8. I needed to do this because of Windows 7 would not have used all my installed RAM. Unfortunately, ModelConverterX no longer works in Windows 8. I always get an error message when I try to convert .dae files to .mdl files. The software seems to believe that all the triangles in the model have no error, so it discards them.

I believe that both programs were were created in Microsoft Visual C++ (if this information helps).

I don't miss MRAI compiler too much, because there are an ample supply of flightplans available from others.

But the loss of ModelConverterX is sorely missed. Google Sketchup is the easiest way to create a new model and if I can't convert my creations into a .mdl file, then it is useless to me.

Does anybody have any ideas?

You could install a virtual machine Win7 and run model converter on that.

OK, I just have to warn everyone that uses Win 8 and FSX. I upgraded from Win 7 to Win 8 and reinstalled FSX, which worked at first the same as in Win 7.

Then I installed some addons, the NGX, UT2, a few airports and such. Shortly thereafter FSX wouldn´t work anymore with ANY addon. The default planes worked fine, but any addon airplane made FSX load indefinately.

I had to delete this bad exuse of a OS and had to reinstall Win 7, now everything works as intended.

So, my thoughts on Win 8 are that it´s not working with FSX at all and everyone that intends on using FSX should stay miles away from it.

Just my two cents.

My thoughts are that it was not the OS but the person trying to use it.

Apart from the occasional loss of the game controller, FSX will run

perfectly well with Windows 8, if properly installed and configured.

Yeah well I had a fresh install of Win 8 and was very careful in installing FSX, as I always am....I know of the quirks that FSX has regarding installation.

Apart from that....Win 8 is just a mess of an OS.
